Good As Gold

We love the chic and sultry silhouette of Nerea Garmendia's gold embellished mini cocktail dress by Emilio Pucci. Garmendia kept the rest of her look quite simple-simple messy waves, fresh makeup and gold and silver peep toe heels. We absolutely love the rich beading in the dress, which gives the wearer a luxurious and glamorous appeal-similar to that of our Jovani 1283. Complete with elaborate floral embroidery and sheer cutout accents- this mini dress looks as if it were dipped in gold.

Organic Beauty

What girl doesn't love roses? While roses can liven up just about any living space-they can also do wonders for your skin and your overall health. Actresses, such as Liv Tyler and Evangeline Lily love rose water and use it on their skin on a daily basis. We did some research on the uses and benefits of rose water and became rosy cheeked at the findings.

livtyler

1. Rose water and oil are great for the skin-especially for aging because they fight off wrinkles and tighten the skin's pores. It also acts as a skin cleanser and toner.

2. Whenever you have razor bumps, spray on a light, even mist of rose water onto affected area to help calm irritation and inflammation.

3. Add a couple of drops of rose water to any facial mask to enhance the mask's performance.

4. Rose water can be applied over insect bites like mosquito bites that easily stop the itchy feeling, reduce the inflammation and cool the area.

5. For any eye pain or fatigue, gently dip a cloth in rose water and place it on your eyelids for a soothing feeling that helps cool your eyes.

6. Rose water acts as a gentle astringent which helps reduce redness and inflammation associated with acne. Swollen inflamed pimples can be reduced by gently dabbing rose water on the affected area. Reduce the appearance of scars by applying a mixture of sandalwood, lemon juice and rose water on them.

7. Rose water can also be used on the hair to soften and condition rough and damaged areas.

* Keep in mind that real rose water is derived from rose petals. It's this water that actually has the healing properties. Avoid rose essence because it doesn't have any health or beauty benefits.

Beauty Brush

If you ever thought your toothbrush was solely for brushing your teeth-think again. That small bathroom staple can actually do more than just get your teeth white and clean. Here are seven reasons why you should keep a toothbrush in your makeup bag.

toothbrush

1. Get smooth lips with small and quick swipes of a toothbrush. This will make your lipstick look smoother and last longer. Apply vaseline, then use a wet toothbrush to gently slough off dead skin.

2. Toothbrushes are great for flyaways! Spritz hairspray onto the toothbrush and brush your hair into place!

3. Tame your brows with a toothbrush. Comb through with a brush, then add a little gel and apply with the brush.

4. Cute and colorful nail art: Splatter paint on your nails with your toothbrush.

5. Create volume: Add volume by teasing hair at the crown using a toothbrush from mid-strand to roots.

6. Lint: The lint in your brush and comb can be hard to clean. Reach for your toothbrush to wipe away hair and lint in hairbrushes, clippers and hair dryers.Voila!

7. Get your highlights back: Touch up your roots with the swipe of a toothbrush-this is super effective because the brushes are super small and get deep into your roots.

Bridal Don'ts

It's easy to find a hundred tips on how to be the perfect bride-from what lip color you should wear to the type of undergarments to wear. While there's no controlling the weather the day of your wedding, there are some things you should steer clear of as your wedding nears. Although small, these tiny details will make a big difference as your nuptials make their way around the corner.

weddingshoot

1.Try to stay away from foods with berries or drink wine because it'll stain your teeth.

2. Don't tan. Keeping your natural skin color is best because you run the risk of looking unnatural and fixing an overly done tan is hard to do. If you do tan, make sure and do it a week or two before the wedding.

3. Don't get a facial, brows waxed or hair cut two days before your wedding. You want to give yourself time in between these procedures and your wedding day in case of mishaps. It's best to allow weeks; this way you give your skin time to heal if it becomes irritated.

4. Try to limit the intake of sodium at least a week before the wedding. Sodium actually contains 50 times its weight in water and if you avoid it the week before your wedding, you can actually lose two to five pounds.

5. If you normally don't wear your hair up and will be wearing an updo for your wedding day, make sure to take a couple Advil to reduce swelling and avoid headaches.

6. Don't wear your bra the night before your wedding and the morning of your wedding. This will help avoid any pink indentations in your skin-which will be visible especially if you're wearing a strapless wedding dress.

7.Drink plenty of water! Drinking water will not only keep your skin healthy and glowing, but it'll also help you flush out toxins-which is good to avoid getting sick.

Fall Texture

The most beloved fashion season is fast approaching and we are ready. Givenchy's Fall/Winter Haute Couture 2012 collection inspired us with mixed textiles and embellishments in muted rich tones. From Tory Burch to Oscar De La Renta and Marchesa, we saw flashes of rich embellishments, such as sequins, lace and vintage inspired pieces. With varying necklines and lengths, our fall favorites can be easily paired with the seasons essentials: tights, boots and costume jewelry. Take a look at some of our picks for the fall.

Film Noir

Anyone who caught a glimpse of Jenny Packham's Film Noir collection can agree that it was genius-full of elegant and figure flattering silhouettes reminiscent of the 1940s film noir era. We love the peaches and cream color of this beautiful evening gown-complete with embellished epaulettes. Dita Von Teese stuns in this gorgeous Jenny Packham gown. The color and fabric of the gown looks like second skin on Teese's light complexion. She complimented the look with scarlett red lips, beautiful retro hair and a diamond cuff bracelet. Our Tarik Ediz 92057 gown channels the glamour of Packham's Old Hollywood collection.

Blast From The Past

Oh hello nostalgia! During the 90s, you might have been a tot, a pre-teen or an angsty teenager-whatever the case, you probably witnessed one of these fabulous trends we love to hate. Whether you dipped into a pot of glitter for fairy-like inspiration or pulled your tresses back with the help of a trusty plastic butterfly-we thought we'd look back at some of the cheesy beauty trends we all knew a little too well during the 90s.

Gorgeous On The Go

We know exactly how this one goes. In your head, you'll wake up an extra half hour early to primp yourself-glamour achieved. In real life, you hit that snooze button so much, it might as well be a punching bag. Whether you have five or fifteen minutes before your departure, we know you never want to look like you rolled out of bed. Here are a couple super simple and quick trips to help you look polished in minutes; so snooze on, doll-we won't judge you.

makeuptips

1. If you don't have a chance to actually give yourself a full out manicure, paint on two coats of quick drying clear nail polish and give your nails a quick filing. This will make you appear polished.

2. For in between days, brush out your hair with a paddle brush, apply a light mist of dry shampoo and gather into a high ponytail or topknot. It'll keep your hair out of your face and looks super chic and classy.

3. To have wider, brighter eyes, apply a quick coat of black mascara. Apply a coat of blue mascara on the fringe of your lashes to make them pop.

4. Keep your lips moisturized with a tinted lip balm-so you get moisturizer and a hint of color. We love Korres Lip Butter; it feels and looks amazing.

5. If you don't have time to apply foundation, here's a facial moisturizing spray that'll give you an all day glow. Feel free to mist over and under makeup, or even sans makeup. Make a batch for you and your closest girlfriends.

Face Moisturizer Spray:

-a spray mist bottle

-3 oz. witch hazel

-3 oz. aloe vera

-4 oz. rose water

Add all the items together and lightly shake. Voila!

High Collared Chic

One neckline we feel is way too often underestimated is the high collar. The high collar is perfect for showcasing the shoulders and neckline-lengthening the entire figure. Katie Holmes looks stunning in her blue Calvin Klein gown. The simple, yet classy silhouette flatters her figure. Holmes accented the dress with a skinny belt-but we think the dress would look equally stunning sans the belt. Our Mikael Aghal 18S360 is equally gorgeous. It features a unique yet stunning neckline that looks every bit like a necklace.

DIY: Ballet Flats

We can't say we haven't thought of doing this before-we think it actually had something to do with the Christian Dior runway show which featured ballet inspired shoes. What woman doesn't want to be floating on shoes that are the epitome of grace and romance? Because most ballet flats are too thin for everyday wear-here's a DIY so you can fashion a pair of custom flats for yourself.
You'll Need:

balletflats

-a spool of thick black silk ribbon, (decide how thick you want your straps to be)

-a glue gun and glue sticks

-clear nail polish

-a pair of flats of your choice

The process is fairly simple. Cut four strips of ribbon-it's better that they're longer than too short. You will be securing the ribbon at around the point where your ankles are. While you're wearing the shoe, take note where your ankles are and attach the ribbon there. Making sure that the shiny side of the ribbon faces outward, take the end of one ribbon and hot glue it to the inside. Repeat this until all four sides are glued. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry. Wrap around your ankles and cut off excess ribbon. Apply a little bit of clear nail polish so that the ends don't become frayed or unravel.

C'est magnifique le chic ballerine!

The coolest color for your nails this summer is blue. We're loving the icy blue tints-perfect for summer parties and outings. Blue nails are surprisingly refreshing and youthful looking. Clear Summer Skin

Having a blemish or two on your face is one thing-having them on your back is an entirely different thing. Truth be told, you can't really apply makeup to cover up your 'bacne.' There's nothing like having the confidence to wear the strappy summer styles you love. If a couple spots on your back have you feeling a little less than fabulous, cheer up doll- we have a couple of simple and effective ways for the situation to clear itself up.

healthyskin

-First off, drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated. Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Drinking plenty of water helps flush out the toxins in your body.
healthyskin

-Don't skip sunscreen as prolonged exposure to the sun can actually cause darkening of the skin. Your blemishes will become darker and will require a whole other treatment. Make sure that any sunscreen you choose has very little zinc oxide.

healthyskin

-Avoid tanning oils as they can and will clog your pores. Clogged pores will lead to more blemishes.

-Even if you don't take full showers on a daily basis, (i.e. shampoo your hair) make sure and take body showers as keeping your skin clean and free of excess oil and dirt will lessen the chances of you having bacne.

-We recommend: organic oatmeal soap or rosemary soap as both are very effective in clearing the skin. Oatmeal softens and cleanses the skin without leaving a film. Rosemary has a natural drying agent that helps heal blemishes.

celebrity style

- Apply a small amount of tea tree oil to the affected areas. We recommend using a cotton ball as it'll help distribute the oil effectively. Do this once a week on clean skin.
celebrity style

-Avoid wearing clothing that doesn't allow for air circulation and traps sweat. Sticking to natural, breathable fabrics are best for any type of skin.

Get Cheeky

If you want to take a break from the bronzers, get cheeky with some stained cheeks, babe. We're loving cream blushes for the summer-given that your skin's color is augmented by your natural summer flush. Cream blushes tend to actually stain the skin, looking more natural-rather than powder blushes that stay on the surface of the skin. To achieve an airbrushed look, apply the cream blush with a blush brush and apply in natural strokes-this way there are no harsh lines of demarcation. You'll look like you're naturally blushing!

Beach Waves 101

If you love the look of undone and breezy summer hair-think beach waves. This style is effortless and works great in between washes. Remember, it's okay to look undone-besides, it's a perfect contrast with your polished wardrobe. If you have minutes to spare, then you have beach waves.

Begin the process by sectioning your hair into four different sections-(if you have a lot of hair, section it into 8).

Brush your hair upwards and wrap around into a coil and pin securely.

To make sure the coils stay, spray with a light mist of hairspray and tie on a head scarf to keep them secure.

(Leave this on for two or three hours-great for overnight as well). Delicately loosen and unravel the pins each section and shake out your hair.

This will result in natural looking waves that you can wear and enjoy all summer long.

Katie Holmes is set to debut her line of clothing, 'Holmes and Yang,' (with her stylist Jeanne Yang) at the upcoming New York Fashion Week. While Holmes' clothing line may have come as a shock to many, (we didn't know either), headlines of her upcoming debut are creating a buzz on and off the internet. The line, which was originally born in 2009 has been in high end stores for years and we'll admit that we can't wait to see if Holmes brings her A-game.

Make The Most Of Your Curves

Own, don’t hide, your curves with the right wardrobe. No one knows your body quite like you do, so take note, doll and get ready to walk with a whole new confidence. Knowing a simple few tricks can help you make the most of your beautiful curves. First, find out whether your body is pear, rectangular, apple or hour glass.

Longer legs: Every woman wants longer legs. To make your legs appear long and luscious, be sure to wear heels that showcase your legs and automatically give your body length. Heels also make you appear taller and give you better posture. Heels that match the color of your skin help make your legs appear longer.

Longer Torso: An open neckline, such as a scoop or v-neck elongates your torso. Who doesn’t want a longer torso?

Make the most of your curves: One sure fine ways to create definition in your body is by creating a waistline. To achieve this, add a belt to your waist. An empire waist dress or blouse also helps to accentuate your natural curves. Remember, it’s all about learning to dress your curves and making the most of your body.

Note: America Ferrera is following two of these three tips: Her red dress has an open square neckline which opens elongates her torso. Her red heels are also lengthening her legs, making her appear taller and leaner.

Let Your Hair Down

Remember what it felt like to wish your hair could instantly grow a couple of inches or so overnight? And though you grew to realize that human hair grows an estimated four to six inches a year, there are other ways to boast a healthy and voluminous head of hair:extensions. If you're afraid of them not looking real or not blending well with your natural hair color and texture, take these tips into consideration and you'll soon be on your way to rocking that long hair.

longhair

Always choose virgin hair: Virgin hair has never been processed in any way, so it's naturally healthier. It also means that the actual cuticle of the hair runs one way, which means it'll be smoother and shinier than hair that has been processed.

Think of the texture: Here's where you have to be honest with yourself: what's your natural hair type? What does it feel like when it's dry? If you have naturally curly hair or wavy, stick with curly extensions because when and if you straighten your hair, it should match the texture of your natural hair. Remember, it's all about seeming as natural as possible.

The color: Will you be drying your hair before or after your extensions are put in? Think of what color matches your color and realize that while extensions are dye-able, it's best to treat them as little as possible so they last longer.

The type of extensions: Do you want extensions that you can occasionally remove? Would you rather have tracks sewn in? Think of how often you want to sport that long mane and choose whether clip ons, (which you can remove and add whenever you want) or tracks,(which are sewn on) are better for your lifestyle.

Skip A Wash...Or Two

As women, we find ourselves often talking about our hair-the length, the color, the shine, the health and texture of it. Let's face it-at times, it might seem we're a slave to our hair, from root to tip. So is it really healthier to skip washing your hair. The argument is that lathering up on a daily basis strips the hair of important, healthy oils that can cause it to break off over time. And while those detergent aspects of shampoo may be good for your scalp, they can take a toll on your hair. In all reality, skipping a day between shampoos is probably best for your hair in the long run. Your hair is actually at its weakest when it's wet-so washing it everyday will break down your hair and weaken it. Don't lather up your entire hair, instead only wash the scalp and hairline-the suds from that will rinse down to the roots.

Adele has said that she sometimes washes her hair with cold water-foregoing the shampoo or product. Would you ever just rinse your hair in between washes?

On Trend: Sunkist Lips

Are you out of the loop with the red, pink and nude lipsticks? Why not try an orange lip? Before you make an argument of how the color won't look good-think again. A nice bright or subdued sunkist inspired lip is fun, fresh and summery. If you opt for an orange lip, make sure it's either matte or with a hint of shine. Keep the rest of the makeup simple since you want your lips to be the focal point. A simple coat of black mascara and an optional dusting of bronzer and voila! You'll look like the first day of summer!

Glam Tips

We all love a good makeup tip-but did you know that you can set your makeup and make your face appear matte with solid deodorant? Yes, dabbing a bit of deodorant under your eyes, on your T zone and on the bridge of your nose, after you've applied your foundation.

If your liquid foundation has become a bit too heavy for the summer weather, take the matter into your own hands. Did you know that adding a dime size of aloe to your foundation will make it sheer and give your skin a nice glow? Bye bye heavy foundation-hello summer skin!

You can make your eyes appear bigger by using a different color of eyeliner. Ditch the old black eyeliner for a fresh plum, forest or bronze colored liner. Adding color opens the eye without being as heavy as a black liner. Color will naturally draw the attention to the eye and the face.

Want the best of both worlds when it comes to your lashes? Get a wet lash look and dark long lashes, by applying a coat of clear mascara and applying a coat of black/brown mascara on top. It'll make your lashes look long, defined and glossy!

Jewelry Tip

Costume jewelry is a great accessory to have, but what happens when all your favorite brass pieces and silver pieces start to go green? No need to cry over green jewelry-simply apply a coat of clear nail polish over and set to dry. Now you can wet your jewelry and wear it without fearing the fact that it'll stain our fingers.

Fix It

Foundation Fix

Buying a foundation that's too light is uber frustrating for anyone. There's only so much color matching you can do over a counter. So before you return that foundation, (if you find the time), follow our steps to making it work for you.

celebrity style

If your foundation is too light:

Use it as a highlighter: For a nonshimmery take on a highlighter, apply your light-toned foundation to the middle of the nose to elongate, on the upper cheeks to add brightness, or on the top of the Cupid's bow to lend definition.

Save it for another season: Skin can lighten and darken depending on season, so use that to your advantage. When well blended, a lighter foundation shade in the Winter might just match your complexion perfectly. Still off? Apply it with a wet sponge to blur its paleness.

Recognize the power of powder: If the shade is only slightly too light, then still wear it as normal, but consider layering a darker powder on top. Or just add a bit of bronzer as a finishing step, targeting the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin.

Beauty Myths

Beauty Myths

As women, we're fed beauty advice from the time we strap on our fist heel of mary janes. We're advised to brush our hair to ensure its growth, never to pluck any facial hair because it comes back with a vengeance, never to sleep with your makeup on, so on and so forth. But as you get older, you start to wonder what's actually fact and fiction. We're here to debunk a couple beauty myths for you.

celebrity style

Does your hair grow faster in the summer?

The truth is, there may be a slight increase in the rate of growth, but it’s really marginal. A natural hormonal shift and increase in UV may contribute to some changes.

Does your body become immune to antiperspirant?

Most antiperspirants contain aluminum salts which block the eccrine duct, which is the tube that the sweat comes out of. There is actually no science behind that. The only possible explanation is that the body adapts and finds a way to unplug the duct.

Does sleeping on your side cause wrinkles?

The way you sleep does affect wrinkles -- that's why some lines are called sleep lines. If you crunch your face against a pillow you can get them. It's best to sleep on your back. Satin sheets are great because they don't crunch against the skin. and beauty sleep pillows are also an option, they are made with a special foam and have a unique shape which helps alleviate pressure on the face.

Does chocolate cause acne?

Chocolate per se will not make you break out-in fact, there is little evidence that chocolate or any specific fatty foods will cause acne, but we do know that a high-sugar/high-fat diet can increase sebum production and promote inflammatory responses in the body -- which can lead to acne.

Can you shrink your pore size?

There are actual products that will make your pores appear smaller, but that doesn't mean they are smaller. Certain medications will dry out your skin and make the pore seem smaller. If you pop a pimple or blackhead incorrectly you can damage the pore and enlarge it. Best to do it with a sterile needle after steaming, clean with alcohol before and use a comedone extractor with even pressure. Then apply a topical antibiotic.

Does hair grow faster with regular trims?

False. Ultimately regular trims do not make hair grow faster (health and diet factors play heavily here), but if you want length without the damage, stick to routine salon visits to get your longest, healthiest hair. In all, there is a potential for a net gain of four and a half inches per year.

Kate

Kate Moss' best modelling shots are soon to be translated into a coffee table book. The wafer thin English model will grace all 368 glossy pages of Kate. The Kate Moss Book will contain a retrospective of her career with photographs by Terry Richardson, Mario Testino, Hedi Slimane, Patrick Demarchelier, Juergen Teller, Karl Lagerfeld and more. It is not known exactly what images will be in the book but we suspect there's going be a fair bit of 90s Kate Moss goodness involved. Here's to a coffee table book people might actually like skimming through.

Her accessories included a Dior red clutch and Dior red pumps that matched her bold lip colour. Sporting a silver bracelet, she completed her chic Parisian look with a faux bob.

On Trend: Camouflage

It's one of the greatest dilemmas in a woman's life-translating a runway trend into a wearable wardrobe. But ask any woman-if there's a will, there's a way. One trend that's been around for decades is the structured camouflage. We love camo when it's a bit over sized and still true to its roots. Why not pair a camouflage piece with feminine pieces for a look that's military chic.

Beauty Filled Summer

Don't sweat the summer, seriously. While you're preparing your usual beauty routine for upcoming concerts, festivals or weekend getaways to the beach, we prepared a list of things to keep you beautiful. We'll admit- it is hard to feel beautiful when you're sticky and sweaty. Simply pack a couple items and you're on your way to being a fresh faced beauty under the sun.

celebrity style

In your bag:

-A hat is a great way to keep your face and head/hair protected from the summer sun. An over sized floppy hat is not only protective but stylish as well.

celebrity style

-Face blotting wipes are essential! They are great at removing excess oil and dirt from your face, especially during the summer. You can also make your own wipes with small squares of wax paper-voila!

celebrity style

-Dry shampoo can be very helpful in keeping your mane super fresh. The sun, sweat and humidity can cause your hair to look dirty and limp. A couple sprays of dry shampoo and you're back in the game, muchacha.

celebrity style

-A lightweight sunscreen, (we love sprays) to keep your skin moisturized and protected from sunburns.

celebrity style

-Colored lip balm to add moisture to your lips and a bit of color.

celebrity style

-Eye refreshing pads (Napoleon Perdis) to keep your eyes fresh and moisturized. A pair of sunnies to keep your eyes protected!

-A small bottle of scented mist spray to stay smelling fresh!

Beauty 101

Hello Sunshine

Some of your biggest beauty blunders occur overnight. Between smudged nail polish, smeared makeup, and bad breath, the blunders just keep piling on leaving a girl to wonder what to do. Even if you prep before bed you can wind up with beauty blunders in the AM. We know how irritating it is to wake up from a peaceful snooze only to find your sheets stained and all of your beauty routine gone to waste. We've rounded up solutions for the most common mishaps so you can rest easy and welcome the sun looking gorgeous!

celebrity style

SMUDGED NAIL POLISH
Caution: wet paint! Hate when you think your manicure has dried only to wake up with sheet prints and smudges? Although your fingertips may feel dry to the touch in minutes, complete hardening takes over an hour. To be safe, use a fast-dry top coat and be sure to paint your nails two hours before hitting the hay.

TANNER STAINS
To avoid bronzer or self-tanner stains on your clothes, it's wise to apply the golden glow at night. But how can you make sure the hint of tint doesn't rub off onto your sheets? After the fake bake dries on your skin, apply a light layer of baby powder to absorb any excess moisture and leave your skin smooth and soft.

WRINKLES
Although you may think a peaceful slumber helps relax facial muscles, stressful dreams can cause wrinkles to form on your face while you snooze. Zap these fine lines with a healthy moisturizer packed with oxygen, vitamins, and hyaluronic acid such as Kate Somerville's Dermal Quench Liquid Lift. The gentle foam works like an instant shot of botox!

MAKEUP TRANSFER
Are your pillowcases covered with dark smudges from makeup leftovers? Your cleanser probably isn't strong enough! Use an oil-based makeup remover around the eyes to help break down particles, ensuring you wash away every bit of liner and mascara without causing breakouts.

BAD BREATH
Even if you brush your teeth before you hit the sheets, you are bound to wake up with morning breath. While there is no cure for that funky taste, there are methods to reduce the odor. After brushing, be sure to floss and swish mouthwash. This will dislodge any small particles stuck between teeth. But the most important step? Scrub your tongue with your tooth

Summer Spread
Tuesday July 17, 2012 No comments yet

Sole Talk

Summer brings about warmer weather and the sun kissed glow and unfortunately, paining of the feet. For thousands of women in the city, the everyday hustle and bustle can cause damaging effects on the feet by widening them. 'Summer spread' refers to the widening, flattening and collapse of feet when they are not bound and closed in. So while we're stocking up on stylish gladiator and t-strap sandals, we aren't realizing that our favorite warm-weather sandals are not providing any support at all. When you walk on the wrong type of shoe, you place the body in an abnormal walking position that can cause long-term medical issues, including toe, knee, hip and back problems.

1. Tighten up and give your shoe the balance it needs by wearing closed toe shoes, (i.e. sneakers, booties)

2. Choose a sandal or shoe that has a natural arch. A wedge or a small heel is better than a flat heel because they put too much pressure on the Achilles tendon.

3. While at home, whether you're relaxing, watching TV or reading a book, put on some of the highest heels or boots you'll wearing in the winter.

4. Beware of shoe 'no-nos': Shoes such as flip flops, UGG boots or ballet shoes that fold easily are damaging to your feet because they don't support your foot's natural arch. If you do wear these shoes, make sure to limit their use.

5.Soothe tired heels with arnica, peppermint and cayenne pepper. Usually, the smellier the rub, the better it is for your feet. After washing your heels and soaking them, rub some on your feet and elevate them for 15 minutes.

6. Drink more water. If we walked on our hands, our hands would be swollen. Excessive salt intake and a lack of water can cause our feet to swell more often. So drink up and elevate your feet whenever you get a chance.

Sporty Glam

We love sporty glam- think Spice Girls meets Carrie Bradshaw, (in a more wearable way, of course). As much as we love a head-to-toe glamazon look done up in a sparkly and sexy fit, there's something a little more modern  here. Oscar de la Renta's Resort '13 collection nailed luxe meets low key and we're taking cues from the signature runway looks. Practice makes perfect, so play around with some ideas and make up your own looks!

celebrity style

Proportion is key You won't get the relaxed vibe you're after with all body-con or all oversized silhouettes. See how Oscar de la Renta balanced his runway looks with a prim fit-and-flare skirt and a body-skimming baseball t-shirt? The proportions play off each other to give it some ease. Do the same with a fitted t-shirt and girlie flared skirt or a slouchy knit and curve-hugging pencil skirt.

Don't fear contrasting footwear. We're looking right to Jenna Lyons, who finished a pair of slouchy camo pants with a polished pair of pointed-toe pumps. Yes, each piece hails from a different aesthetic, but together they make the look. It's easy to replicate with baggy, boyfriend-style jeans rolled up to reveal your favorite heels.

Keep Cool

To all New York women who've experienced the recent heat wave, we feel you. We've also feel like we'd surely melt. Did you know that taking a cold shower (or 4 or 5) is not only mazingly refreshing, but beneficial to your health as well?

Beauty Benefit #1: It improves circulation. Going from warm water to cold water a few times during your shower can vastly improve circulation. If this seems like too much activity for one shower, just switching to cold water at the end of a shower can also have its benefits. Better circulation in your body can prevent hypertension, varicose veins, and even promote fast healing.

Beauty Benefit #2: We all know washing our faces with warm water opens pores – great because you want to remove dirt and oil. However, when pores are left open they are more susceptible to becoming clogged again. Close pores by using cold water at the end of a shower. The cold will also cause blood vessels to constrict, which reduces dark circles under eyes. Hello, youthful looking skin!

Beauty Benefit #3: Cold water makes hair appear shinier and healthier. It also causes the cuticle of the hair to close, creating stronger strands and preventing dirt from accumulating on your scalp.

Rosemary 101

It's virtually impossible to walk down the beauty aisle at your local beauty store without seeing a section full of essential oils. While the entire concept may be a little overwhelming and quite confusing, trust that essential oils have been around for centuries because of their healing benefits. One oil we're especially fond of is rosemary oil. This fragrant herb, which is great for cooking, works wonders to treat fatigue, water retention, migraines, vertigo, hair thickening and regrowth, joint pain, muscle pain, and digestive problems. Buy 100% rosemary oil and if you're using it for cosmetic purposes, apply with a cotton swab. Dab a small amount onto your lashes, making sure you avoid getting any in your eye. If you want to use it on your hair, apply 3 drops onto a small dollop of conditioner and work it through your hair, making sure to apply to all the areas of your hair that are the weakest.

Use this treatment once every week. You'll be batting your eyelashes and flipping your hair before you know it!

Dos and Don'ts: Nude Lip

A nude lip can be beautiful, minimal and youthful looking. We love a nude lip because it works beautifully when paired with a strong and smokey eye and it also looks great when worn alone. Take heed of the chalky lip, ladies. A nude lip should never make you look super pale or unnatural. Make sure and apply a primer and lip balm before the lipstick so your lips are perfectly moisturized. Flaky lips are bad lips. Here's how to choose the perfect shade for your complexion:

Fair: If you’re a fair skinned beauty, stick with a rosy, pink-tined nude lipstick like Smashbox’s Flawless.

Golden: Those with golden undertones should opt for light, creamy beiges like Crème d’Nude by MAC.

Olive: Girls with olive skin have got it good – they can pull off nearly any nude shade. For a neutral nude, try Revlon’s Nude Attitude.

Dark: For dark skin, indulge in rich, gold-brown lipsticks like Bobbi Brown’s Cocoa.

Debris-Free Purse

A purse holds all of a woman's secrets and is more a part of her identity and independence, rather than just a part of her 'look.' It is a quintessential part of a woman's life and while the outside is almost always presentable to the public, the inside of a woman's purse may be more cluttered than we'd like to admit. Between the lip gloss, the loose change, gum wrappers, bobby pins, lint, crumbs and dirt, it can become a messy situation. Fear not, clear your head and clear your purse with a simple lint roller. It'll lift up all the junk right out of your purse in a couple swoops.

Saturday Do: Write A Letter

This weekend, take a break from all forms of social media for a while and write somebody you know a handwritten letter. Maybe you've lost touch with someone or maybe your best friend/significant other lives far away. While there may be no real special occasion or reason; taking the time to connect with someone through a beautifully handwritten letter means a lot. Knowing that someone took the time to break away and write their thoughts with paper and pen, rather than shoot an instant message, makes a world of a difference.

Freckled Femmes

Did you know that freckles aren't a skin disorder? They're small spots of melanin that usually show up on fair complexions, though they can also appear on darker skin tones as well. We're not going to lie, we think freckles are darn cute! If you are a freckled femme, make sure to protect your skin by wearing a moisturizer with SPF because long periods of exposure to the sun cam actually cause you to develop more freckles and even cause skin darkening. Flaunt, don't cover those freckles! Opt for a sheer foundation or a mineral foundation which allows for you skin to show through. We love water based cheek stain that adds a light fresh flush of color and doesn't look cakey on your skin.

Pin Straight

What are hairstylists and fashion trendsetters predicting for the fall? Sleek, pin straight hair that's healthy and shiny. Straight hair seems to require more care and it appears to make the wearer appear more youthful. Who doesn't want that? We're loving straight and simple for this upcoming year. Don't worry, if you're like the rest of us, you have some sort of untamed mane, but be patient and always use styling serums to add shine and protection.

Why the sudden move to sleek locks? According to hair stylist Ted Gibson, 'women aren't feeling romantic at the moment and designers aren't making frilly clothes.' Models wore their hair stick straight on various Fall runway shows; proving that sleek hair is always a good thing to go back to.

Perfume 101

celebrity style

Have you ever lost the nozzle to your favorite perfume? It's enough to make your eyes tear up, as the bottle is rendered quite useless. You shake the bottle and try to squeeze any perfume out, but alas, it seems your scented bliss is over. Think again, dears.

First, you’ll need a new container for your fragrance. There are tons of gorgeous antique bottles avaible online. Follow these steps:

1. Firmly pull up and out to remove the nozzle trigger (the metal or plastic tube protruding from the bottle that gets pushed down to dispense the scent).

2. Cut off any plastic casing around the neck of the bottle with sturdy scissors.

3. Using a flathead screwdriver, insert the tip under a section of the metal piece, and start gently prying upward. Work your way around the bottle, prying a little at a time. Make sure to loosen and lift upwards to prepare for the next step.

4. With a pair of pliers, grasp the metal piece and gently pull up, freeing the bottle completely. It’s a good idea to do this over a large bowl or pot, in case of any spills.

5. Finally, pour your fragrance into it’s new bottle, and spray (carefully) away!

Makeup Free

No makeup, no problem? Summertime is here and the sweltering sun has many of us wishing we didn't have to wear a speck of makeup. While many of us won't ever stop wearing a full face of makeup, there are a couple tips to follow that can make a world of a difference on the days you opt not to wear makeup.

Brows : Nicely groomed brows can take you a long way. They help frame the face and can actually make you appear younger.
celebrity style

Exfoliate: Get rid of some dead skin. Work a facial scrub on your face mized with a pinch of sugar to gently exfoliate dry old skin. So you always have a fresh glow.

celebrity style

Get Glowing: We won't deny the power of a good facial tanner. A little bit goes a long way. Wear on a daily basis to gradually achieve a youthful tanned glow without the harmful rays of the sun or a tanning bed.

celebrity style

Full lashes: Even if you skip the mascara, swipe a little bit of Vaseline on your eyelashes to instantly darken and condition them.

celebrity style

Bright-eyed: Achieve a bright look by applying Visine to keep the whites of your eyes super white.

celebrity style

Hydration: Keep your skin hydrated with a moisturizer that has light reflecting properties. Hydrated skin is young looking skin.

Patience was the key during the photo shoot. Not only did the models have to stand still while being made up, but the makeup artist and the hair designer had to pay close attention to every detail so the final pieces would be perfect.

A Little Pep-lum In Your Step

Why not put a little pep in your step with a peplum dress? The peplum trend is very figure flattering as it cinches the waist by creating a wider hip area. This trend helps to create an hourglass figure. If you are pear shaped, choose a shirt, instead of a skirt.

Ladies, we've all been there: in limbo at the sight of a stuck zipper. Should you pull with all your might and possibly break the zipper or wait it out and hope nothing flies out? Between the snags and the close calls, your zipper's bound to have a couple bumps on the road. To un-stick your zipper, try rubbing a bar of soap on the jam. You may have to repeat this a few times, but it should get things running smoothly.

She then added, "All my fashion fragrance dreams coming true! Her perfume, which has been two years, (two years!) in the making is set to hit stores in September.

Shine On

Do you feel like you've lost your glow a bit? Add a little highlight to your day with the help of a highlighter. No, it's not glitter, it's more an iridescent powder or cream that has a peachy/bronze color to it. It helps highlight your bone structure. But be careful, you don't want to look like the Snow Queen. Make sure and practice a couple times. The point here is to enhance your natural beauty.

How To Apply: You should know that a little bit goes a long way. Use a Kabuki brush to apply the highlighter from the outer eyebrow bone, down along the temple, around and across the top of the cheekbone in a C motion. You can also apply highlighter from the forehead, down along the nose and onto the chin.

Statement Belt

What women doesn't want a smaller waist? When it comes to accessories, there's nothing quite like a statement belt. The statement belt can help define and accentuate the waist and spruce up an outfit. A statement belt looks best when paired with a simple outfit, because you want your belt to be the centerpiece. An outfit that is too noisy will detract from the belt. While the belt does work to define the waist, make sure it's not so tight that it restricts and cuts off your circulation.

Be Gone Mosquitoes

Ugh, one of our least favorite things about the summer in the city are the occasional and pesky mosquito bites. While we do know that sneaky mosquitoes love the moisture of our surrounding island, we also know that they can't stand lavender. Pretty cool huh? So naturally, we're here to advise you that you can help reduce the amount of bites with a little lavender. For your home: Buy a couple bunches of lavender and hang a couple upside down next to your curtains. It's okay to let them dry, (aside from looking pretty) the oils in the lavender will naturally repel any mosquitoes. For your body: Buy a small bottle of 100% lavender oil at your local drugstore or organic supermarket. Next, fill an empty spritz bottle, (travel size or large, depending on your needs) fill it with cold water and drop about 15-40 drops depending oh how big your bottle is. Afterwards, shake it up a bit and your ready to spray it on your linens and bed and your body.

Glam Tip

There's nothing quite as annoying as having your freshly painted manicure smudged or chipped. If you're like most of us, the time you choose to paint your nails is usually a couple minutes before you rush out the door or about to shower or do an activity where you need your hands. We heard that running your freshly painted nails under cold running water helps set your manicure. We tried it last night and it actually worked! So ladies, when you can't quite wait around for your nails to dry, run those puppies under ice cold running water and you're good to go.

Beauty On A Budget

That's an average of $1,200 a month. Cut your wallet some slack with these easy beauty tips that are both fun and cost effective. Your welcome, doll.

Tea Bags for Eye Puffiness: Tea bags on your eyes actually do work to reduce swollen, inflamed skin that can be a result of aging or a late night out on the town. Make sure you pick up caffeinated tea at the store if you want to use it for your eyes. Brew two bags at once. After you steep them for tea, take them out and let them cool. Then apply them to the skin under your eyes for several minutes. Leave them in the fridge overnight and use cold for the best effect: the cool temperature also helps to reduce swelling. What's the caffeine for? It shrinks blood vessels.

Kosher Salt for Beach Hair: Get ready for some serious beach waves, babe. Bring the beach home with you and create saltwater at home. This is one trick that is great to use when your blow-out starts to fade and go limp, too. Mix together a few teaspoons of kosher salt with a few ounces of water in a spray bottle. Add in a couple of spritzes of hair gel. Spray on dry hair and scrunch it up with your fingertips to create waves and texture. The salt and gel will act together to create volume and that beachy look that lasts all day.

Oranges or Lemons for Dry Elbows: Elbows are prone to dryness, especially during winter time or in the summer if you spend most of your hours in air conditioning. To soften them, you don't need expensive body lotion. Cut a whole citrus fruit in half (even grapefruit works) and rest each elbow in each half for 10 or 15 minutes while you're relaxing in front of the TV. The acids will help slough off dead skin and will soften those stubborn dry patches. (Note: be sure to wash off the citrus before going in the sun to prevent skin discoloration.)

Baking Soda to Exfoliate Your Face: Did you know that half the battle of achieving soft, smooth, young-looking skin is done with exfoliation? All you need is water and baking soda. Use a three to one ratio of water and baking soda. Mix well. Apply in a circular motion to dampened skin. Rinse with warm water and then splash your face with cold water to close pores. The texture of the baking soda will get rid of your dead skin, reducing the risk of clogged pores. It also has antiseptic properties that will prevent future breakouts. This is safe for all skin types.

Coffee for Cellulite: One of the main ingredients of today's cellulite creams and lotions is coffee. Caffeine draws out water from your fat cells, shrinking them and making them less noticeable. If you brew coffee every morning for a pick-me-up, you now have a reason to re-use your coffee grounds. For a weekly shower scrub, try mixing a couple tablespoons of grounds with four teaspoons of Olive Oil and apply to areas affected.

Jennifer Aniston's Glow

There's no denying Jennifer Aniston's absolute glow and utterly youthful appearance at the age of 43. So how exactly does Aniston get her trademark glow? You might be surprised to find out what she relies on. Safe to say, some of the best things in life are simple and easy; her skin regime matches that to a T.

Step One: Grab yourself a bowl of hot water and steam your pores for 10 minutes.

Step Two: Jen follows step two with Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion and spends 10 minutes massaging her face to stimulate skin cells and help tighten up those muscles.

Step Three: Jen apparently uses a vitamin A treatment from Anna Lotan next, which she leaves on for another 10 minutes. According to the Anna Lotan website, Jennifer's 30 minute beauty blitz relies on Renova Retinol Capsules, which "dramatically improve skin texture and appearance, enhance skin elasticity and moisture content, boost cell renewal and refine pores".

Step Four: Whilst you wait for step four to work its magic, open up some vitamin E capsules and smooth them onto your shins and elbows for that youthful Hollywood glow. Alternatively, you could use a vitamin oil.

Step Five: Next up, apply a quarter of a teaspoon of Vaseline under each eye.

Step Six: Fill your sink with water and icecubes and plunge your face into the freezing concoction to shrink pores and reduce puffiness around the eyes.

Pantone Skin

Talk about being 'color-matched.' Just in case you were wondering where you fall on the Pantone Color Spectrum, that option will quite possibly be available to you soon. Cosmetics companies spend millions of advertising dollars trying to convince consumers that they hold the secret to the perfect color match. Brazilian artist and photographer Angelica Dass’ fascinating HUMANAE project, takes that concept to whole new level. Using Pantone’s categorical system of coloring, Dass extracts and labels her subjects’ exact shades after taking an 11×11 pixel sample from their faces. Her aim is to catalog, through a scientific process, all possible human skin tones. Check out a selection of Dass’ incredible Pantone color matches after the jump, and then head over to her website to see even more from the project.

Kate Bosworth attended the Berlin Hugo Boss fashion show in head-to-toe black. While black can have the tendency to be drab, the fit and style of Bosworth's dress was perfect.

Why we love it:

The open back on Bosworth's dress shows just enough skin and adds a youthful touch to this black. Even though her accessories were also black, she knew how to work every angle of her not-so-basic LBD.

In The Blink Of An Eye

Long before the eyelash extensions and the slew of volumizing mascaras, were the first pair of false eyelashes. According to makeup and movie legend, false eyelashes were invented in 1916 on the set of the silent film, Intolerance. Director D.W. Griffith needed his leading lady, Seena Owen (above), to show some serious emotion and decided that the windows to her soul needed dramatic drapes. So, thanks to a bit of hair, gauze, and glue, false eyelashes were born. Available today in hundreds of varieties ranging from natural to downright alien, it appears that this beauty staple is sticking around for good.

Nail Tip

Set Your Nails

There are times you can’t find the time to sleep, let alone get in to see your favorite manicurist. There are times, however, when a quick swipe of clear nail polish just won’t cut it – a big job interview, first date, etc., but the at-home, colored nail-polish smudge factor is high – and deters most from even trying.

Sometimes, no matter how quickly and effectively you try to set your nail color, a crease or chip will make it's way on to the freshly set paint. Fear not; the next time you find yourself reaching for the clear nail polish, head into your kitchen instead. Cooking sprays, like PAM, will smudge-proof freshly painted nails. Simply spray it over your just-done nails as you would the sprays you find next to the dryers in your nail salon. Be sure your spray is unscented. Voila! Smudge-proof nails!

Saturday Do

It's happened to us way too often here in the city. We're walking on some sidewalk and we pass a bodega and see bouquets of every kind of flower. So what do you do? We eye them from the corner, contemplate their names, smells and will yourself away from buying a bouquet. This Saturday, go back to that bodega and pick up one or two bouquets of flowers for yourself. Sounds silly? You'll surprised what a bunch of flowers will do for your home and your soul.

Play Makeup

Do you remember applying makeup as a child? Ahh, the careful application with a rough brush or q-tip, dipping into brightly colored eye shadows and sweeping on frosted lipsticks. Then there were the compacts which had tin foil paper in place of an actual mirror. Those were the days, right? To actually play with makeup. In recent years, makeup giants, such as MAC and Maybelline have tried to put the play back in makeup. There's been much debate whether products featuring iconic cartoon characters such as Hello Kitty, Wonder Woman and Miss Piggy are infantilizing women or not. The makeup companies claim that the reasoning behind such products is to add a hint of notalgia; taking the woman back to a time when makeup was more play and less a part of their routine. It seemed to have worked in Japan in 2009, when Maybelline launched a Hello Kitty Volume Express Mascara, which sold a record amount of units. What do you think? Are women who buy cartoon clad makeup products buying the emotional aspect more than the product itself?

Found: Glass Slipper

Hold onto your soles, because a little bit of your childhood just came back and had cocktail hour with your adulthood. It happened through Christian Louboutin's cuztom-made glass slipper, (red sole intact) to celebrate the re-release of Disney's classic fairytale on Blu-Ray next month. Believe that if these revamped high end heels had originally been featured in the movie, Cinderella never would have left the single slipper behind. Unlike the cartoon version, these slippers sparkle for days and boast crystal-studs and butterfly-embellished stilettos. Fittingly, they were unveiled in Paris yesterday, on the final day of the Haute Couture shows.

"The dream is a major factor in my language of design," said Louboutin - a boon, when the brief for a princess piece includes the buzzwords "lightness", "beauty" and "transparency".

"Her character and her story dictated the design to me; it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale. The slipper is the magic wand of transformation, which conjures confidence, beauty and love."

White Now

What outfit says summer to you? Think white pants and a grey top: this simple combination is so chic and summery, it'll carry you from daytime to nighttime. A great pair of white denim can be elongating and a youthful look. The grey top adds a low-key element to the look. Feel free to really play up the shoes since the rest of the outfit is so simple.

Fashion Does Crazy

It's a given: fashion doesn't always make sense and is not always wearable. Part of the fun with fashion trends is how translatable they are in the real world; spanning between fantasy and reality. We're looking back at some of the craziest fashions from runway shows; looks that would probably be more appropriate for Halloween than for real life.

Find Of The Week

We love a good lip balm, but this one really takes the cake. Korres Lip Butter packs loads of moisture in a rich, buttery formula that melts on the lips and offers a shiny, tinted finish. The pop of color is fresh and looks absolutely natural.

What it does: This rich butter leaves lips deeply moisturized, supple, and kissably soft. Korres Lip Butters are formulated with natural oils and extracts to soothe and condition lips. Shea butter and rice wax provide lasting hydration and softness. This shiny, juicy pop of color comes in an array of "flavors" and is ideal for dry lips.

Summer Proof Hair

While you might be inviting the sun with open lawn chairs, its harmful rays will inevitably take a toll on your hair. Don't fret, there's no need to hide under a slew of over sized hats and bandanas throughout the summer. We found this absolutely appetizing and healthy hair mask that'll show your hair some much needed love just in time for the summer.

Prep Time: 10 minutes Wait Time: 20 minutes Makes 2 masks

1/2 avocado ½ banana 1 egg 1 tablespoon olive oil ¼ cup vinegar 1 cup water

Combine water and vinegar and set aside. Combine avocado, banana, egg, and oil in blender or food processor. Puree until no clumps are present.

Massage prepared mask into scalp and comb through hair with fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Cover hair with shower cap and leave in for 20 minutes. Rinse hair with cool water and wash with shampoo.

After shampooing rinse hair and then pour vinegar/water mixture over hair. Let vinegar sit on hair for 1-2 minutes then rinse and condition as normal.

Sheer 101

It's here and it's sheer! We can't even deny the popularity of sheer clothing; it can be perfect for the hot summer days, but it also requires that you know how to wear it. You can wear a sheer blouse to the office, but you do need to layer up underneath. A little too much sheer can leave you looking over exposed.

You can wear sheer pants, you just need the right materials. A pair of undershorts, like these Spanx can help provide coverage and flatter your shape As with any revealing look, play to your best features and keep it proportional. Going sheer on top? Balance out the look with something more covered-up on bottom, or vice versa for sheer pants and skirts. Sizing is key. Sheer pieces that fit too snugly are going to up the sexy factor infinitely (even when you may not want to).

Sheer Dos: Perfect layering allows for hints of exposed skin

Oh Bobby!

If you're like most of us, most of your bobby pins will either end up between the cracks of your floors or at the bottom of your purse. Well, we finally found a reason you'll want to start wearing those pins proudly! Think of Cacharel Fall 2012 show where these beautiful and bold pins came to play.

If you can't find the shade you prefer or just have a bunch of stashed pins, give them a quick update with a coat or two of your favorite nail polish. Ta-daa! Not loving your outfit? Got super flat hair? The pins not only create a great focal point for the face, but they also moonlight as the perfect conversation starter. But their versatility doesn’t end there. They’re also the perfect solution to dealing with a fringe that’s slap bang in the middle of that awkward, annoying growing-out phase.

Berry Good

Here's a new reason to smile: strawberries can bring a bigger smile to your face by actually whitening your teeth. Yes, you heard right, whitening your pearly whites. We're on the hunt for the natural ways of beautifying ourselves and while searching for teeth whitening methods, we ran across this one. The malic acid in strawberries works as a whitening agent on teeth. Catherine Zeta-Jones swears by this tip and has been using if for years. Jones, a longtime smoker, has teeth that bare no signs of smoking, so it looks like we'll have to try this yummy teeth whitener for ourselves.

How To Use:

Combine 3 strawberries (hulled & chopped) and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl and mash with a fork. Apply with a toothbrush, and let sit for 5 – 10 minutes. Then brush off and rinse.

We know its summer time and we couldn't be further from thinking about the fall and winter. While our closets may be busting open with sheer blouses, paper thin tank tops, cut offs, maxi dresses and a heap of strappy sandals, a recent sneak peek into several Fall 2012 collections have us seeing white. These collections are as fresh as powdery snow, white velvet and cold as ice. So go on and have your fill of iced margaritas while you can, soak up the sun and know that the upcoming fashion climate is a little Snow Queen meets The Secret Garden.

Glam Tip: Glossy Eyes

With July 4th festivities just around the corner, we know what you're thinking. We know you don't want to choose between no make-up and the inevitable raccoon eyes that comes with summer fun in the sun. No worries, simply sweep Vaseline over your lashes as an alternative to mascara. It enhances lashes (the soft shine makes them look super long and lush). Plus, it’s an amazing eyelash conditioner. You can also smudge a touch of it across your lids for a dewy, doe-eyed look!

Summer Glow 101

We know the havoc that summer weather can reek; the excess oil, the darkening of the skin and dry skin. We've all been there, but what about women with darker skin tone? It's safe to say that summer skin requires different care than winter skin, so take notes and achieve nice, light and breezy skin with these simple products. Also, remember that when shopping for summer and fall shades, it's also important to change up the color of your foundation just a little to coordinate with the changing colors.

Skirting The Issue

Who are trying to kid? We know the hotter weather has forced our hemlines to rise. While that may be fine and dandy for weekends or evening, it may be a bit problematic for those of us who work in office settings where a dress code is implemented. Rather than back down from this sartorial dilemma, follow these simple tips to wearing your minis without fear of being sent home for dress code violations. That said, the rule of thumb still stands: If the hem is shorter than your fingertips when your arms are at your sides, think twice.

Tip 2: Pair a fuller mini skirt with a striped shirt

Flake Free Lips

Nothing's worse than the occasional and bothersome flaking of the lips. Dry, parched lips don't hold lip color well and can be quite painful after a while. With summer full in swing, it's important to constantly keep hydrated to keep yourself healthy and beautiful. To combat a flaky pout, apply a little Visine on a cotton ball and swipe. Follow up with a moisturizing lip balm and pucker up! Don't believe us? Try it!

When done right it can look natural and sun-kissed, but it can also go very, very wrong if the lighter color at the bottom goes brassy. Take a look at the stars below and let us know whose ombre you would most like to copy.
