"I got an email a couple days after ordering my dress saying that my dress had a golden ticket in it and I was super confused. I honestly thought it was a spam email and almost didn't open it! My parents still thought it wasn't true until I cashed the check from you guys (but they're crazy ;))

I get to wear my dress in April for my junior prom. The tradition at my school is that only juniors get to wear big ball gowns for prom, and to me, all of the girls wear practically the same dress, just in different colors. Its a big deal to have one that stands out and looks great, so I chose this one. I wanted something unique, traditional yet modern.  I wanted something that I couldn't get at one of the four dress shops in Central Wisconsin. I liked that the dress has an almost vintage look and is very classy.  I love the detailing on the bust. Best Colors for Winters are hues that are sharp, stark and clear. You will look best in intense, rich colors, like black, navy blue, red, and hot pink. For lighter colors, wear bright white or icy pastels, such as like cool blues and pinks.

Worst Colors for Winters: Avoid dressing in earthy tones and subdued colors like beige, orange and gold. They will make you look faded and ashen.

Best Colors for Summers: Summers have a low level of contrast between their hair, eye color and skin tone. For you to look your best, choose soft neutrals and pastels, as well as muted colors with cool undertones. Powder blue, dusty pink, mauve, lavender, plum, and pale yellow are all great color choices.

Worst Colors for Summers: Avoid intense, vivid hues because they will look harsh and drown you out. Also stay away from earth tones and orange, which will wash you out.

Best Colors for Autumn: Rich golden, spicy and earthy colors will accent your complexion. Therefore, look for a warm undertone when selecting a color. You can wear both muted and rich warm colors that are seen in autumn leaves and spice colors, such as camel, beige, olive, orange, gold, and dark brown. You will also look great in a rich warm grey.

Worst Colors for Autumn: Stay away from clear, bright colors and black and white, which will make your look tired and faded. Also steer clear of pastels and blue tones, which will look cold against your complexion and give you a pale appearance.

Best Colors for Spring: Springs can wear very pale, soft colors, such as peach, camel, golden yellow,golden brown, and aqua. You will also look fabulous in ivory, bright greens, true reds, clear blues and coral. Your colors may be particularly hard to find because they can never be too muted or too dark.

Worst Colors for Spring: Avoid black and white, which are too contrasting for you. Also stay away from dark, dull colors.

Cheek Tip: Add some blush and luminizer to the APPLES of your cheeks for nice glow. 

Eye Tip: Using an eyebrow pencil to define your eyebrows and fill in any patches will pull your whole look together, along with a soft-colored lip gloss.  

Lip Tip: Add some clear lip gloss to the center of your lips to give them a fuller appearance. 

Want your style to take flight for prom 2011? Then, consider one hip trend to take your look to the next level: feathered details. Feathers have been all the rage on the runways for the past few years, and they’re making their way to the prom scene. Many of your favorite designers, Jovani, Dave & Johnny, Blush, Party Time, Panopoly, and others, embraced this embellishment in their prom collections and took it to fabulous, feathery ends.

Feather accents get an A+ for eye-catching excitement. Wispy tendrils flutter out from each feather and give the look precious and delicate volume. Softness is appealing too, and there’s nothing quite like running your hands over a skirt or bodice of fine tiers of soft, downy feathers. We’d wear them every day if we could get away with it.

Peacock feathers give your dress some unexpected detail and fun color pop. This Tony Bowls dress pairs them with a waistband of colorful gemstones. It’s a unique look that really dazzles. Similarly, this Blush mini uses rhinestones and an aqua satin sash to enhance the natural beauty of the peacock feather accents.

The best part of this trend is that you can really make it work for you. If you want to go for full-on feathers you can find short cocktail dresses and full gowns, equally enchanting and exquisite. But if subdued accents are more your style, you can find something a little more subtle and equally dramatic and unique.

With this year’s prom floral prints, you’ll be anything but a wallflower.  They are bold and festive and bring a grand style with gorgeous color and delicate design.

A distinct pattern among the prom florals is large accent flowers at eye-catching points along the skirt and bodice.  It’s a very different look than the small rose prints and delicate garden prints we saw a lot of last spring and summer.  Smaller flowers tend to blend into a dress by adding a subtle texture, but larger flowers stand out and have a way of drawing eyes from clear across the room.  That kind of look-at-me drama is perfect for girls who really want to get noticed at prom.

Another asset of this style of floral print is dynamic color blending.  Using bold color contrasts in oversized floral shapes strikes the eye in a very pleasant way.  Blues and yellows and pinks and greens combine in a perfect complementary harmony and look very fashionable.

To look and feel your best in this year floral prints, consider your favorite flowers and which colors suit your skin tone.  This is going to be your best combination because you’ll never tire of looking at those gorgeous flowers and you’ll look equally amazing in the right colors, too.

It’s a busy time at NewYorkDress.com .  We’re smack in the middle of adding all the prom 2011 dresses to our website and completely dizzied by sequins and sparkles.  We’re really excited, too, because this year’s gowns are stunning.  You’re gonna love ‘em.

Among the prom 2011 dresses, one of the biggest trends is a bright explosion of pop colors.  Pop colors scream fun, which really sets the tone for this year’s event.  It’s going to be a big, festive celebration punctuated by luscious floral prints, daring ombrés, and charming solids in a rainbow of bright pinks, aqua blues, mint and lime greens, and banana yellows.

If you rewind back to this year’s homecoming collections, you’ll recall that a subdued color palate and lots of black dominated the scene.  Prom, however, is going in a completely different, and more colorful, direction.  Part of that difference has to do with the season.  Prom is in the spring, so naturally the color palate leans toward pastels and springy colors.  This year, though, those lovely spring tints are stepping it up a notch in loud and lively pop colors.

So how do you accessorize these bright colors?  It depends on your personal style and the particular dress you choose.  But since your dress is going to be driving your look, it’s okay to let your accessories take a back seat.  Black or neutral peep toes are an excellent choice for shoes, and they’ll look fabulous paired with a clutch or wristlet in the same color.  Adding a little gemstone sparkle lets you cast a colorful pop shimmer, so diamonds, colored gems, and rhinestones are a fabulous way to glam up your accessories, too.  Just make sure you don’t overdo it on the sparkle—you don’t want to blind anyone.

You might want to try something daring with your hair to match that fun, colorful mood.  A half updo with loose curls and lots of volume makes a bold statement, as does flowing tresses or a French twist with a sassy pompadour.  Have fun with it and you’ll stay on trend for prom 2011.
