Spring Bridal Trends

The changing of season brings us to some of our favorite bridal trends. We looked to the runways and celebrity nuptials and chose some of our favorite bridal trends. Not to worry, our favorites are feminine and fashion forward with a hint of tradition. Our first trend is the column wedding gown, which serves to elongate a bride's silhouette. Although it's more of a timeless gown, it is especially great for petite brides, but this silhouette is not to good at concealing problem areas. Our next trend is the peplum. This style is great for two reasons-it can add curves to brides who have a square or rectangular figure as well as conceal any problem areas at the midsection. If you have an hourglass figure, keep the peplum at the waist. If your figure is more on the petite, square side, you should opt for a peplum at the hip which will enhance your figure. Ruffled gowns are our third trend. These are perfect for any bride who has a pear shaped body. If you are a bit shorter, the ruffles might overpower you. Last, but definitely not least is the short bridal gown. A shorter gown can create balance for a bride who has an hourglass figure and is also a great way to frame your gorgeous legs!

Winter Glow

We know what you're thinking, winter time is creeping up and you want to keep your skin glowing. Colder weather doesn't have to mean a dry and dull complexion. We found the best foods and tips to help keep your mug looking and feeling healthy, whether you're a winter bride, attending a glamorous event or at the office. Here's to your health and beauty, doll!

How To

1. Avocados aren't called a superfood for nothing babe. In fact, we think it's wise to stock up on this creamy, buttery fruit because it's rich in essential oils and B-complex vitamins. The Niacin found in the avocado has anti-inflammatory properties that help heal red, blotchy skin. One a day will give you 27% of your daily need for Niacin.

avocado

2. Mangoes are also superfoods. One mango has 80% of the Vitamin A you need on a daily basis. Vitamin A is helpful in repairing dry, flaky skin. The more moisturized your skin is, the more glowing your skin will be.

3. Almonds are amazing for your complexion-they carry 150% of your daily need for Vitamin E. Think about that when you think about grabbing a bag of potato chips. Vitamin E is essential in the anti-aging process.

almonds

4. Cottage Cheese contains an ingredient called selenium, which is very resourceful in fighting free radicals, (kind of what some really expensive serums and creams do). Selenium will also help prevent skin cancer.

5. Your body thrives on water. Make it a habit to drink a glass before you go to bed and a glass as soon as you wake up. Doing so, will help regulate your digestive system-the cleaner your body runs, the better your skin will look.

cherry

6. Cherries are great providers of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps produce collagen elastin which is essential to healthy skin. It also helps fight skin damage and wrinkling.

Okay, so this really isn't a bride war at all, it's more of a match made in bridal heaven. Stain 101

Stain Removal 101

Try as hard as one may, stains are a fact of life. A nuisance yes, but a fact of life, nonetheless. We know the routine; you wipe your hands clean of any makeup before slipping into your dress, ask someone to zip you up and fasten you in all in an effort not to stain our dresses. What to do when the first drop of wine and crumb of deodorant go astray? Before you start to pout, take our advice.

Wine

winestain

First of all, know that you can really just treat it like any other stain and simply pop in the wash. You'll need Stain Rx, water and a hair dryer. You will need to wet the fabric and stain, and apply Stain Rx onto the stain. Work it in with your fingers to make sure it penetrates the fabric. Afterwards, rinse with cool water. This should help remove a majority of the stain. In order to avoid stain rings, it's important to dry the area with a hair dryer. Make sure to use low heat settings until it is thoroughly dry. If the stain persists, consult a dry cleaner.

Makeup Stains

makeupstains

If you happened to smear your dress with concealer, liquid eyeliner, lipliner and or makeup, moisten the area with warm water and rub some liquid detergent into the stain. If it's concentrated, make sure to dilute the solution with water. Reminder: Doing this will only pretreat the stain and avoid it from further settling in.

Deodorant Stains:

deodorantstain
These pesky stains can really put a damper in anyone's day. If the deodorant stain is an old one, simply wet the stain with cold water and sprinkle salt over it. Let it sit for 3 hours. The longer you leave the salt, the more effective it is at removing the stain. After 3 hours, wet the surface again and add salt and scrub the salt in.
If it's a fresh deodorant stain, an old pair of pantyhose should do the trick. Simply roll the hose into a ball and roll over the deodorant stain until it disappears.

DIY Carrot Mask

A carrot a day will keep most ailments away, so it came as no surprise when we heard that celebrities like Demi Moore and Sarah Jessica Parker rely on carrots to give their skin a youthful glow. Carrots are especially great at defending your skin against free radicals and promote regeneration of skin cells. We realize incorporating carrots into your everyday diet might be somewhat of a challenge, so we searched for an easier way to squeeze those carrots into your life. Did we mention it can be used as an at home spa treatment? Love it!

demimoore

How To

-2 big carrots
-1 tbsp honey
-1 tbsp olive oil
-1 lemon
-1 tbsp cold water

carrotmask

Start off by peeling the skin off the carrots. Steam them for a couple minutes until soft and mash them into a paste. Add 1 tbsp, of honey to this paste. Honey is very effective in reducing inflammation and eliminating germs. If you like, add 1 tbsp. of olive oil to this mixture as it helps give the skin a nice glow and has a softening agent.

If you have oily skin:
Squeeze a few drops of fresh lemon juice into the face mask mixture. It's a natural astringent and helps clean the skin. Add about 1 to 1 1/2 tbsp of lemon juice, depending on how oily your skin is. Add drops of cold water to find a nice consistency-make sure your mask doesn't become runny.

Wash your face with your preferred cleanser, rinse and pat dry. Apply the mask and let it set for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. You can use this mask once a week to help keep your skin glowing!

Bride-spiration: Anne Hathaway

Actress Anne Hathaway had a not-so-secret wedding this past weekend and while the photos were quite blurry, we still have an idea of how her custom Valentino gown looked like. Her wedding gown seems to have appeared as an off the shoulder illusion gown with a beautiful full tulle skirt. It also appears to have had some sort of white pattern all over the bodice, but we'll have to wait on more detailed photographs to surface. In the meantime, we've compiled three close matches any bride would be blushing in.

Runway To The Altar

Issa's Spring 2013 collection featured models with hair dos perfect from the runway to the altar. If you want to be think outside the traditional bridal box, we suggest this fresh and romantic hair do. We love this classy updo with a fresh orchid twist.

Instructions

To recreate this look, prepare washed hair with flexible hold hairspray for volume and movement, then rough dry. Pull strands back into a neat, high ponytail and divide the hair into two sections. Tease each section of hair and proceed to curl with a large-barrel curling iron and gather into invisible hairnets while spraying hairspray for hold and shine. To finish, twist hair randomly to create twisted shape, pin into place and top with fresh orchids.

Boho

This week's wedding theme is Boho bride. We just love the look of free flowing silhouettes, hippie inspired hair and makeup for a Boho Bride. If you're planning a Boho wedding, remember to incorporate earthy tones, soft pinks, lavenders and neutrals. A very popular trend in Boho weddings is wearing a floral crown in lieu of a traditional wedding veil. So go on and show your true Boho nature shine through in Theia 880679, ($1095) and Kathy Hilton H24060, ($595).

Coming Up Roses

New York Fashion Week has brought us trunkfuls of ideas for wardrobe, hair and makeup. One look we took a liking to-in fact, it made us blush-is the all-over pink face flush. This look is perfectly wearable to party, the office, weddings and even Homecoming. The look can seem a bit extreme, but with the right products and hues, you'll be radiant. Costello Tagliapietra Spring/Summer runway show featured this look on some of its models and the look was adorable.

To get the look: Start with a light foundation all over your face. This look works better if you use a shade of foundation that is lighter than your skin color. Clean, matte skin is a perfect canvas to work from.

Apply concealer underneath and around your eyes to create a wide eyed look. Sweep the eye shadow onto your lids, stopping at the crease.

Apply lip balm to your lips to soften them and prepare them for the lipstick. Apply the lipstick onto your lips, using a lip brush. Sweep some blush onto your blush brush and work it along your cheek bones, dusting a little on the bridge of your nose and sweep across your forehead.

Use a clear brow gel to naturally set your brows in place and define them. Feel free to forego any eyeliner or mascara.

A Wash Of Color

When you think of weddings-the first thing that comes to most people's mind is a white dress. One of the newest trends in weddings is the colored gown. Fans of the traditional white wedding dress, be ready to be blown away with color. Designers like Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier added bold and colorful wedding gowns to their latest wedding collections. Don't fret-you don't have to choose flashy colors for your dress. The color you choose for your wedding dress should be representative of who you are-perhaps your favorite color. If you need a little more inspiration before taking the leap into a colored gown, check out our Pinterest.

A Casual Affair

With so many wedding shows featuring over the top weddings with ballooning budgets, it's understandable why many couples think bigger is better when it comes to their wedding. While those shows do make for entertaining television-there's a sudden trend in weddings that calls couples to 'take it down a notch or two.' We're referring to the casual affair-the wedding that calls for a small round-up of guests, finger foods, no intricate place settings or eight piece orchestra-the laid back backyard wedding. An article in last month's New York Times revealed a shift over to the more casual side of things.
If you've decided on a casual wedding and want a simply breathtaking, yet 'breezy' kind of dress, look no further than our chic gowns.

DIY Bridal Spa

Has planning for your wedding gotten the better of you? Whether you're months or days away from reciting your vows, weddings can be stressful at any stage. If you're like most brides, you have anywhere from a handful of close friends and family to an army of people telling you what to wear, eat and which magazines to look at in preparation for your big day. It's time for you to step away from your list of things to do-turn that cell phone on silent and take a bath. Taking the time to find your center again is essential and we found a decadent way to pamper yourself via the milk and lavender bath. Tell us, how else are you going to get glowing skin for your big day?

Directions: Fill up your tub three quarters of the way with hot water, (adjust the temperature according to your liking). Add an entire gallon of milk to the mix. Add 10 drops of all natural lavender oil and let it steep for about five minutes before you immerse yourself in the water. If you want to add a hint more of serenity to your bath, toss in two bags of chamomile tea and let them steep. Breathe in and let the stress melt away!

Bridal Icon: Audrey Hepburn

Our wedding theme this week is Old Hollywood bride. We can't help but be inspired by the brides of yesteryear-including Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn. Each of these women had a little something that made them stand out. They were, without a doubt, some of the fashion world's first trailblazers. This week, we're inspired by Hepburn's dress in Funny Face. While Hepburn's cap sleeve A-line gown was designed by Givenchy-it's timeless silhouette is still worn by brides everywhere. Here are two styles that closely resemble the style and grace of Miss Hepburn's.

How To Choose Your Dress

So you're engaged; after the champagne and handfuls of congratulations have worn off-reality sets in. Now what? You may have had your ideal of a perfect wedding dress,(or two) but before you hit the ground running, take note of a couple tips.

-What time of the year will your wedding be taking place?

-Where will your reception be taking place, (i.e. a ball gown dress might not be appropriate for an outdoor reception)

-Will you be wearing a store bought dress or a custom made dress? Perhaps you'll even be wearing a vintage dress that needs some tailoring done to it. A custom made dress usually takes about four months from start to finish so it's important that you give yourself enough time to make changes.

-Set a budget: remember that you don't have to spend a fortune in order to have a beautiful dress. Do give yourself some wiggle room just in case you have to spend a little extra on tailoring, beading etc.

Your Silhouette

-Above all else, you should always feel beautiful in your dress and part of that is due in part to the fit and style of wedding dress. -Stay true to yourself and what looks best on you. Perhaps there's a part of your body you want to conceal or highlight. Work with your tailor to make this happen.

1)The Ball Gown: this style was originally introduced by Queen Victoria. This style works on women of average height and flatters fuller and hourglass figures. You can choose a heavy fabric which will give your dress body and weight or a lighter fabric for a weightless effect.

2) The A-line: this dress follows the shape of an A from the narrow part of the bodice to the outer edges of the skirt. This style is very flattering and elongating to different body shapes.

3.The Empire Waist: this dress featured a high waist and is usually cropped at the bust line. It is mostly flattering to women with a smaller chest-but not necessarily for a woman with a larger bust.

4. Mermaid Cut: This dress is fitted throughout the bodice and flares out at the knee or a little lower than the knee. This style is flattering to the hourglass figure and is equally flattering to a woman who wants more body

5.Sheath Dress: This dress is perfect if you are comfortable showing your curves. It fits close to the body-it is perfect for women who have narrow hips and are taller. Avoid this style of dress is you have wide hips and narrow shoulders.

Think Pink

Perhaps it all started with Kay Thompson's performance of Think Pink in the feature film, 'Funny Face' in which Audrey Hepburn stars. Thompson shouted about pink being the one and only color from then on and we borrowed her fascination for the hue for our pink wedding theme. To avoid your wedding from looking like a cotton candy explosion-pick and choose and include a variety of hues and tones in your decor and accessories. Add brighter tones for the decor and soft baby pinks in your dress and makeup.

Stay Gold

We dreamt in gold and it was brilliant, to say the least. To those who say there's a thin line between fantasy and reality-we say forget about it. When planning your wedding and researching wedding themes, it's best to stick to the 'anything goes' philosophy. So if you're dreaming of something different, something a little 'out there,' we dare you to think of a gold wedding. Bridesmaid 101

One of the biggest dilemmas in a wedding, aside from finding your perfect dress is finding the bridesmaids' dresses. It's stressful enough finding your own gown; how do you make the right decision for a handful of women? When it comes to bridesmaids, should you let them choose their own dresses or is there a way to reach a happy medium?

How about the LBD,(little black dress)as bridesmaid dresses? You can never go wrong in this timeless classic. Think of black bridesmaid dresses as blank canvases where your bridesmaids can really create their own look with fun accessories, (heels, jewelry, belt/scarves and makeup). Remember that you while you do want some sense of uniformity, it's also important to give your bridesmaids a sense of self.

What about a different color for each bride? Choose a couple colors that compliment your wedding theme and give your bridesmaids the option to choose a color. We love the idea of fresh color in chic and simple styles. Alred Sung is one of our favorite designer to do this with.

We also like the idea of keeping one half of your bridesmaids in one style/length of dress and the other half in a different style and length. This way, there's still that sense of uniformity and variety. Find out which lengths and styles your bridesmaids are comfortable wearing and find a two happy mediums. Wtoo Bridesmaids is perfect for added variety!

Bridal Don'ts

It's easy to find a hundred tips on how to be the perfect bride-from what lip color you should wear to the type of undergarments to wear. While there's no controlling the weather the day of your wedding, there are some things you should steer clear of as your wedding nears. Although small, these tiny details will make a big difference as your nuptials make their way around the corner.

weddingshoot

1.Try to stay away from foods with berries or drink wine because it'll stain your teeth.

2. Don't tan. Keeping your natural skin color is best because you run the risk of looking unnatural and fixing an overly done tan is hard to do. If you do tan, make sure and do it a week or two before the wedding.

3. Don't get a facial, brows waxed or hair cut two days before your wedding. You want to give yourself time in between these procedures and your wedding day in case of mishaps. It's best to allow weeks; this way you give your skin time to heal if it becomes irritated.

4. Try to limit the intake of sodium at least a week before the wedding. Sodium actually contains 50 times its weight in water and if you avoid it the week before your wedding, you can actually lose two to five pounds.

5. If you normally don't wear your hair up and will be wearing an updo for your wedding day, make sure to take a couple Advil to reduce swelling and avoid headaches.

6. Don't wear your bra the night before your wedding and the morning of your wedding. This will help avoid any pink indentations in your skin-which will be visible especially if you're wearing a strapless wedding dress.

7.Drink plenty of water! Drinking water will not only keep your skin healthy and glowing, but it'll also help you flush out toxins-which is good to avoid getting sick.

What's Your Season?
Wednesday January 25, 2012 Post a comment

What's Your Season?

season color image

Analyzing your skin tone and (natural) hair and eye color can help you determine which colors work best on you.

To start, find the undertone color of your skin by looking at the inside of your arm in natural daylight. Then, use the list below to decide which season most accurately describes your complexion.

Winter (think Kim Kardashian, Lucy Liu, Courtney Cox, Catherine Zeta Jones) Winter is a cool tone. People with winter complexions have blue or pink/rosy undertones. Skin can be pale and porcelain white, yellowish-olive, or dark. Winters are generally brunettes with deeply colored eyes. Many Asians and African Americans fall into this category. Natural white-blondes may also be winters. Those with the winter color profile have a lot of depth to their coloring and a lot of contrast between their hair color, eye color and skin tone.

Best Colors for Winters are hues that are sharp, stark and clear. You will look best in intense, rich colors, like black, navy blue, red, and hot pink. For lighter colors, wear bright white or icy pastels, such as like cool blues and pinks.

Worst Colors for Winters: Avoid dressing in earthy tones and subdued colors like beige, orange and gold. They will make you look faded and ashen.

Summer (think Gwenyth Paltrow, Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon) Summer is also a cool tone and with blue and/or pink undertones. Their skin is very pale and pink. Summer coloring usually occurs in natural blondes, and even pale-skinned brunettes with pale eyes. More often than not, winters are brunettes and summers are natural blondes.

Best Colors for Summers: Summers have a low level of contrast between their hair, eye color and skin tone. For you to look your best, choose soft neutrals and pastels, as well as muted colors with cool undertones. Powder blue, dusty pink, mauve, lavender, plum, and pale yellow are all great color choices.

Worst Colors for Summers: Avoid intense, vivid hues because they will look harsh and drown you out. Also stay away from earth tones and orange, which will wash you out.

Autumn (think Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Natalie Portman) Autumn is a warm tone and people with this complexion have golden undertones in their skin, like a pale peach, golden beige or golden brown. Many redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes fall into this category. However, golden blonde and black hair coloring can also fall into this range.

Best Colors for Autumn: Rich golden, spicy and earthy colors will accent your complexion. Therefore, look for a warm undertone when selecting a color. You can wear both muted and rich warm colors that are seen in autumn leaves and spice colors, such as camel, beige, olive, orange, gold, and dark brown. You will also look great in a rich warm grey.

Worst Colors for Autumn: Stay away from clear, bright colors and black and white, which will make your look tired and faded. Also steer clear of pastels and blue tones, which will look cold against your complexion and give you a pale appearance.

Spring (think Lindsay Lohan, Anna Kournikova, Mischa Barton) Spring is also a warm tone. People of this complexion have subtle golden undertones and are usually creamy white or peach. Springs have extremely light, ivory skin color, with usually natural golden blonde, auburn, or strawberry blond hair. Springs also have very clear, light blue and green colored eyes. Freckles and rosy cheeks are also characteristics of this group. If you can’t decide weather you are an autumn or a spring, springs tend to have pale eyes while autumns have dark eyes.

Best Colors for Spring: Springs can wear very pale, soft colors, such as peach, camel, golden yellow, golden brown, and aqua. You will also look fabulous in ivory, bright greens, true reds, clear blues and coral. Your colors may be particularly hard to find because they can never be too muted or too dark.

Worst Colors for Spring: Avoid black and white, which are too contrasting for you. Also stay away from dark, dull colors.

Catherine the Great: Kate Middleton’s Style
Thursday September 08, 2011 1 Comment
The royal wedding may be history but the fashion legend-in-the-making is just getting started. Kate Middleton has graduated from stylish upper middle class college coed into a sophisticated, jet-setting Duchess who is primed to become the next Queen of England. But even before she tied the knot with her prince, she was already making headlines for years for her fashion savvy—even sans stylist as a student. After all, she first caught her Prince’s eye while walking a runway show back in school (in lingerie, no less).

Kate Middleton Reiss dress

Middleton has helped put some niche and not-extraordinarily-expensive designers on the map, notably Issa, the brainchild of Brazilian designer Daniella Helayel, whose form-fitting and modern draped dresses were high on Middleton’s list before she got the rock, then her dress of choice for the official engagement announcement, that much-coveted royal blue gown that matched her regal sapphire ring, still selling at a markup on eBay. This royal blue Mori Lee gown is perfect for your own royal wedding—bridesmaids and guests alike. This La Femme style is a more casual take on the look. While Issa frocks can be a bit pricey ranging from about $400 to $1200, Kate the Great does have an arsenal of the best designers as well as a vast budget at her disposal now (her wedding dress alone, on display now in London, is said to have cost about $400,000). Especially since royal fashion has long been associated with dowdy cuts and bizarre hats (still is, and Middleton has increased interested in small fascinators) except for the likes of Princess Diana, Kate’s clean-cut, body conscious style is a breath of fresh air.

So, aside from buying a replica sapphire engagement ring, how can your own style take a page from Middleton’s? Focus on simple lines in bold but flattering colors that highlight your figure in a way that is feminine and even sexy, but always classy. Middleton sticks to bold colors including blue and hot pink as well as neutrals such as the elegant cream dress from specialty chain Reiss that she wore for the official engagement photos. She sticks with moderately expensive investment pieces that she has been known to (gasp) wear more than once. The Duchess has also been seen to favor some plunging necklines that work with her trim figure. This Jovani gown in elegant black or white is definitely a Middleton-worthy style, featuring both a deep V plunging neckline as well as the draping and slim silhouette she is usually seen in.

Budget Wedding—Here Comes the Deal
Friday July 29, 2011 1 Comment
You’re engaged. You want to get married in style, but you don’t want to go broke doing it. Spending $40,000 on one day is falling out of fashion—and fashion is keeping pace. Whether you tie the knot at City Hall, old-school style, in Manhattan with a photo shoot around the city, take a quick whirlwind weekend in Vegas to make it legal or head South of the Border for a destination vacation-slash-tying-the-knot, you can find a look that fits the bill, both figuratively and literally.

budget wedding dress

Want a classic yet on-trend floor length dress that will not break the bank? This lace Tadashi style has the one-shoulder look down with a beautiful bow at the stylish waist sash that ads a soft, romantic touch to the look.  And nobody would ever guess that this high-style design is only $378 (about $1000 less than some of the higher end styles at budget bride resource David’s Bridal). This Mac Duggal design is slightly pricer at $798 but has a lace overlay and detailing that looks like it belongs on a gown that is four times as much.  Still a deal when it comes to a wedding dress.

Are you looking to shine in a floor length satin gown instead of lace? This Dave and Johnny gown has a sexy but fashionable mermaid silhouette, and a striking and unmistakably bridal pleated bow at the bodice with a beautiful jeweled pin. And, guess what, it is only $190—one or two zeros off the end less than many bridal gowns.

And for a more modern fashionista of a bride, this dress is stunning for a beach wedding, with a keyhole neckline and a dramatic low back.

Shorter bridal looks are also perfect for a casual, impromptu or second-time-around wedding. This demure dress is a deal at $168 and can be customized to a variety of brides. How about this with a pair of red heels and a rhinestone clutch?

Good news for the budget bride: you are off the hook for the cost of your bridesmaid gowns, which are traditionally covered by your ladies in waiting. You can keep your maids on their own budgets with a variety of styles around the $150 mark or under like this charmingly sweet Landa style.

Wedding Trends: Telling Your Color Story
Wednesday June 15, 2011 2 Comments

Weddings are a time of celebration and one of the greatest traditions in planning is choosing a color story. Your colors can reflect your own personal taste, the latest trends, or your family history. Before choosing your wedding colors, including the important choice of bridesmaid dresses—and before choosing your wedding dress as well—make sure to pick your venue first. If you choose a beach resort destination wedding, your dress palette will be dramatically different than if you are tying the knot at an historic site such as a local estate.

For princess brides who decide to get married at a fairytale castle, and who might opt for a regal ballgown silhouette, your bridesmaid dresses can mirror your gown in traditional, girly colors, like pastel pink, baby blue, or buttercup yellow. This classic number from Bari Jai comes in a wide variety of traditional colors.

If you are a summer-loving babe who is opting for a breezy beachside affair, you might consider going for shades of silver, blue and aqua. Since your dress will likely be less of a ballgown, more of a breezy sheath, you might want to opt for even more casual bridesmaid gowns, like this short and flirty Alfred Sung style which comes in a pale aqua color called what else but Seaside. The shorter length is not just more casual, but also practical for pictures along the shoreline, where a splash or two could weigh down a longer hem.

Little black dresses are also a great option for bridesmaids at the beach or elsewhere, and your maids will thank you for their ability to actually wear their dresses again. This elegant yet affordable classic black dress will flatter a variety of figure types and will definitely be used again after the wedding day. Black dresses also coordinate with the trend of bridal gowns with waist-cinching black sashes embraced by designers including Vera Wang.

Once you have chosen your wedding venue and preferred bridesmaid dress color—of course, one that is flattering to you as well as your maids stand up beside you for pictures—you can carry the color theme through your entire wedding. Even neutral flower bouquets can be tied with matching ribbons. If you choose fuschia dresses, for instance, you can go all the way with the color, with full-on fuchsia bouquets, centerpieces with fuchsia accents, and even a wedding cake with some fuchsia accents.

Even get the mothers of the bride and groom into the action. While you might not want their dress colors to match your bridal party colors exactly, you do want their dresses or suits to coordinate, not clash, with one another, and to compliment the colors used elsewhere in your décor.

Here She Comes, The Mother Of The Bride

It’s official. We’ve been completely swept away by the Royal Wedding. Our day-to-day affairs are on constant pause to indulge in the modern fairy tale otherwise known as real life for Kate Middleton and Prince William. We were totally enamored by the true love that radiated from the newlyweds. But now we’d like to take a moment for Carole Middleton, simply gorgeous, as she watched her daughter transform into a princess.

Carole Middleton is perfect for her role as MOB. Recognizing the importance of her dress, she exhibited royal behavior just prior to the big day. A dispute with couturier Lindka Cierach led to a change in designers, and resulted in the sky blue silk day dress by Catherine Walker, a favorite designer of Princess Diana. Her decision to make the last minute switch brought her right on par for a Royal Wedding. The sky blue matched her skin tone, and the entire ensemble exuded poise and elegance. Oh, let us not forget the hat; it wouldn’t be a Royal Wedding without the fancy hats! Mrs. Middleton went with a wide brim variation that read first class all the way.

No Royal Wedding on the calendar? Us either. But that doesn’t belittle the fact that baby girl is getting married! As MOB, you must support and complement your daughter, and look fabulous the entire time! There will be plenty of eyes on you that day. There’s the walk down the aisle, perhaps you’re standing on the altar, and don’t forget the thousands of pictures that will circulate forever. MOBs need to look their best, and feel even better.

As MOB, you do need to keep a few things in mind when selecting your dress. First, is color. At the Royal Wedding, Queen Elizabeth wore yellow clearly declaring her supremacy over the family. The rest of the women wore neutrals as not to compete. Do consider what the wedding party is wearing. And definitely consult with the bride for her suggestions. If the bridal party is wearing lilac you could choose a deeper shade of plum such as this tulip tiered gown by Jovani. If purple doesn’t flatter your skin tone then go with something more neutral, such as this Daymor mini-dress.

Next you’ll need to consider what time the wedding will take place. If it’s an evening event, you’re going to have to take it up a notch in opulence. We love the understated elegance of this mother of the bride dress . It’s ripe for bold sparkly jewels!

If it’s an afternoon affair, no need to sacrifice high style. Choose a chic suit or a smart knee length dress. Either way, you’re playing the role of MOB with sheer sophistication as you walk the aisle with grace.

There are so many different looks to enhance a bridesmaid dress. You may have your bridesmaids wearing a simple, understated dress and want to keep the look classy and sophisticated. You want the makeup that your bridesmaids wear to reflect the look and feel of the dress. You’ll want the bridesmaids to look fresh-faced and classic without looking plain and boring, which can be achieved by letting the eyes become the focal point of the face. Perhaps wearing a smoky eye with a nude lip, or pairing light eye shadows and heavier mascara with a peachy lip will do the trick. In this case you want your bridesmaids to wear something that does not overpower the dress. Try out this makeup tutorial from MissChievous.

Or maybe your bridesmaids are wearing an understated dress and you want the makeup to reflect the exact opposite. You want the makeup to scream glam and high fashion. This can be achieved by doing a bold colored lip and sparkling eye shadow with high-powered mascara or false eye lashes.

You can even do period makeup to fit the look of your wedding. Try old Hollywood makeup to match this dress from our collection, or you can pair a dress like this one with a 50’s face

Think about the location, time of day, and season of your wedding to help you pair the perfect bridesmaid dress and makeup together.

Location:
If you are having a garden wedding think of a look that is earthy and fresh. Play with colors that compliment the dress. If the dress is gold, hues of green eye makeup would look fantastic with a neutral lip color.

Time of day:
If you are having an evening wedding, you may want to opt for brighter and bolder looks for the bridesmaids; think shimmer, glitter, and smoky. Darker eyeliners and shadows will look amazing on your bridesmaids at night.

Season:
Let’s say your wedding is in the winter. You may want your bridal party to reflect a holiday look of shimmer white eye shadows and eyeliners with a red lip color. Or let’s say wedding is in the spring. Maybe you’ll want to have your bridal party wearing a pink lip color to reflect the spring months with just the right amount of eye makeup.

As long as the makeup fits the look of the bridesmaid dress and the feel of the wedding, you are free to explore the endless possibilities of looks to make your bridesmaids feel like a movie star and to make your wedding absolutely perfect. Here are a few makeup trends that are popular for 2011. See if any of these fit your wedding style.

And you get to look beautiful in that bridesmaid dress she picked out for you. As most of us know, however, bridesmaids often pay a pretty penny for a dress that will only get worn once.

No one will know that the dress you are wearing to a gala, a dinner party, or even a night out on the town, was once a bridesmaid dress. And if you don’t tell, we won’t tell...it’ll be our little secret.

Think about accessorizing that dress according to where you’re going. If you have a knee length dress, you can pair it with a bold necklace, a blingy pair of earrings, a pair of heels, and a clutch and strut out the door for a night out. Still think you look a little too girly and frilly? Tone down the sophistication and amp up the edge by throwing on a black leather jacket from Vince Camuto, or this faux leather one from Express, and a studded belt to create a hip rocker-chic look. Try a clutch like this one from our accessories.

Going out for brunch with the girls on a gorgeous early Saturday afternoon? You can pair this bridesmaid dress from our collection with a cardigan from Ann Taylor Loft and flats or with a white/cream leather jacket and sandals.

This bridesmaid dress would transition perfectly from a wedding to a dinner party or a gala. Pair your dress with a white tuxedo jacket or a blazer and a beautiful pair of studs or pearls...stunning!

Remember you can always take that gown to the tailor. If the gown was long and you want to make it look more like a cute cocktail dress, have the tailor take off a few inches and voilà...you’ve got a dress that fits into your lifestyle.

You have so many options to turn that one-time dress into a staple in your wardrobe. You’ll love how many wears you can get out of a dress that you thought you could never wear again. So get that dress out of the back of your closet, ladies. You have all the tools you need.

Trendy Bridesmaid Hairstyles

A bridesmaid’s hairstyle  shouldn’t be too complicated. It is the bride’s day, after all! But, when you’re stuck trying to think of how your favorite girls should wear their hair as they stand up there with you, we’re here to help.

Think simple, and think of the dresses they’re wearing.  A shorter bridesmaid dress would look great with a low side ponytail with curls, while adding a rhinestone clip or flower to cover the hair tie. This hairstyle is not only elegant, but fun.

Another good hairstyle would be a low messy bun in the back of the head, such as the one Miley Cyrus has above.  You can even pair it with a matching headband. If the dress is long, a messy updo would look gorgeous and fun (the whole messy look is very “in” right now). As the model shows here, her hair is not only elegant, but definitely adds a little something to something so clean and kept. It’s very chic and very modern, and is sure to be a bridesmaid crowd pleaser hair style—none of the girls should disagree with wearing their hair like this on the day of your wedding.

You don’t always have to follow trends, though. If you’re looking to keep your bridesmaid hairstyles more on the classic, elegant side, then definitely do a half up-do, half down-do  with curls.  This hairstyle never seems to fade and is very traditional. Plus, this is also a great hairstyle if you plan on wearing your hair up in a beautiful up-do. This way, you stand out from the bridal party, and it may be worth considering how you want to wear your hair first if you’re really looking to be different from the other girls in the wedding.

On the flip side, if you decide you want your hair to be down, and theirs to be up in a classy, elegant way, try a French twist with some fancy pins stuck into it.

Choosing your bridesmaid hairstyles doesn’t have to be difficult. Remember that it’s your wedding, and the choice is 100% yours!

Picking the Perfect Bridesmaid's Gowns
Thursday August 12, 2010 Post a comment

With wedding planning comes an awful lot of pressure:  How to decorate?  Who to invite?  What food to serve?  Which venue to book?  Pretty soon, what’s supposed to be the best day of your life, ends up feeling like the biggest burden.  We’re here to offer help, at least on the dress end, by giving some advice on how to choose the perfect bridesmaid’s gowns.

The first thing you should consider is the looking-good factor.  No matter how many bridesmaids you have, you want each one of them to look great.  And this can be really tricky when sister Jen is long and lean and cousin Mindy is petite and curvy.  There are a few fits, however, that have universal appeal and flatter most, if not all, figures.  Soft a-line dresses, especially those that rest on the natural waist, look great on all body types and are a wonderful option if you want uniformity in your bridal party.  Everyone can look beautiful wearing the same frock!  Just remember to pay attention to other embellishments, too, and avoid plunging necklines or halter dresses because they may not be flattering for everyone.

If you’re okay with a little bit of diversity among your attendants, another great option is to pick a color and let your bridesmaid’s choose the style they like the best.  To ensure a perfect color match, have your friends choose a gown by the same designer like Pretty Maids or Liz Fields.

Another fun trend in wedding parties is to choose a color palate—two or three colors—and have your bridesmaids dress in different shades and styles.  This creates a real modern and lively mood for a wedding and can be a lot of fun to mix and match with bowties and cummerbunds.  It also gives your bridesmaids some freedom to find a shade that compliments their skin tone.  If you decide to do something like this, it’s a really smart idea to pick a blend of warm and cool colors and let your girls find the right match.  You can also coordinate makeup and mani-pedis with this same color palate in mind.  What a great excuse to spend the day before prepping at the spa!
