We look back at some of the famous women who wore the ponytail theirs.

Lily Donaldson looked absolutely statuesque in a long black sleeveless gown by Nine Ricci in a red carpet event in Madrid. She finished her look with a soft side swept do, red lips and winged eye liner. We don't know about you, but we think this 'little black dress' definitely takes the cake.

Who To Follow

Instagram Me

Sounds like a funny concept, doesn’t it? Following somebody. While it’s a concept our parents and grandparents might not yet be hip to, the handful of social media we use has us following everyone, every which way. Whether you want to know what lipstick shade to buy next or take a peek inside what celebrity ate what for lunch, Instagram, is probably the most visually stimulating social media of them all. So what members of the fashion community should you be following?

NewYorkDress.com: NewYorkDress.com is the heart of New York City. We are what girls and women from all around the world dream about. We are NYC, through and through. Go behind the scenes to see our stylist, models and photographers hard at work to bring you dresses that'll make you feel like you're the Belle of The Big Apple.

Oscar De La Renta: Jump head first inside one of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Oscar de la Renta uses OscarPRgirl (her Instagram name) to give followers stunning photos behind the scenes. Followers see the runway shows, the new collection, and even what Ms PRgirl is wearing herself.

Burberry: One of the first fashion houses to jump on the Instagram bandwagon, Burberry has amassed a huge following. This classic British designer is great at highlighting the filters on the Instagram app to take stunning photos from their runway shows, publicity campaigns or just around London.

Kate Spade: Her katespadeny account has a quirky sensibility with not only shots of clothes, but events, NYC landmarks, food and more. It feels personal and intimate and was used effectively to document NY Fashion Week and establish Kate Spade as not only a designer but a trendsetter of what to do and see in NYC.

Gucci: Gucci'spresence on Instagram tends to be less involved than other designers, but the soft, warm feel of Instagram photos definitely lends itself to Gucci’s designs. This app not only displays incredible fashion but also behind-the-scenes pics of celebrities.

Rebecca Minkoff: Fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff, best known for her handbags, is relying on user-generated Instagram photos for her first ready-to-wear collection’s fall print ad campaign. Not only does this interactive platform give her followers a chance to get their ideas into print magazines, it bolsters Instagram’s cred as so much more than a silly photo app.

Forever Young

Oh to be a teenager again. Some of us can't really remember,(perhaps by choice) the teenage angst, the thrills, the broken curfews and the search for independence, secret dates and first bouts with heartbreak. But Dutch artist Rineke Dijkstra's exhibit: 'Rineke Dijkstra: A Retrospective' captures the moment in a young person's life where they seem to be their truest selves. In one photograph, Dijkstra actually captures three teens at a beach in Ukraine who seem as if they've experienced traumatic events 'that left them too exhausted to maintain social facades.' Her photographs span youth from the 90s and 2000's from around the world. The exhibit opens today and runs through October 8, 2012.

Winter to Summer Sleeves

We're really excited about today's tip since it entails us saving money! You know when you have a long sleeved shirt from winter you wish you could wear in the Summer. With July just around the corner, the last thing we want to do is to constantly roll up our sleeves. Get ready to show some skin with the help of your new best friend: rubber bands. To help transition your long-sleeved winter pieces into something spring friendly, fold fabric from the inside of your sleeve and secure with one rubber band. Voila! Instant spring wardrobe without the cost. No more ignoring random rubber bands on the floor.

Giselle In Vogue Brazil

Mum's apparently still the word and supermodel Giselle Bundchen, who is reportedly pregnant with her second child, is teasing fans in her spread in Vogue Brazil. The July Issue has Bundchen in a series of colorful cropped tops and skinny jeans, colorful paint dripped backdrops and a smattering of what seems like Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton's spotted collection. We can't wait to get our hands on this issue! If Bundchen is indeed rocking Kusama's spots, we better start saving because this collection is anything but 'polka dotted.'

Boop-Oop-A-Doop

She won us over with her sleekly parted hair, the strategically placed curly wisps of hair, red lips and chipmunk cheeked charm. Betty Boop is back again, but this time as the face of Lancôme’s up-and-coming Hypnôse Star mascara campaign film. The animated bombshell is staging a comeback—or so it seems—as the label announced that the animated icon is starring alongside Daria Werbowy in the short. To bring Betty Boop’s old Hollywood charm and Werbowy’s contemporary appeal to the small screen, Lancôme tapped French comic book creator and film director Joann Sfar to helm the production.

celebrity style

Bringing the sultry but cute Boop back to life wasn't an easy feat, but Lancôme teamed up with King Features, Betty Boop’s licensor, and Biplano, the brand’s licensing agent in Spain, France and Portugal to “develop and create original” artwork for the groundbreaking campaign. King Features’ vice president of international licensing Cathleen Titus expressed the company’s excitement, saying they are “thrilled” and “impressed with Lancôme’s appreciation of how Betty could bring a distinctive dimension to the campaign. The new Hypnôse Star mascara, set to arrive in stores this July, drew inspiration from the glamour of the 1930s movies. It carries a brush that boasts a triangular shape to cover every lash, deliver volume and yield a glossy finish.

Saturday Do: Try Twice

Have you ever tried something once and instantly sworn it off for good? While it may inevitably happen throughout our lives, it can end up leaving us feeling bottled up. So you tried fried eel and 'hated it' or tried Bikram yoga and almost 'died'. This Saturday, think it over and try something you tried once and maybe swore off, again. You never know, you might change your mind. The point is not to love everything, but instead open yourself up to the fact that things do get easier with time and practice.

Role Model

The Girl That Could: Nora Ephron

Yesterday, we learned of screenwriter and journalist Nora Ephron's passing. Ephron, was without a doubt, the queen of the quips. Many of us may recognize her as the creative mind behind films like, 'When Harry Met Sally,' 'Heartburn' or even her best selling book, 'I Feel Bad About My Neck And Other Thoughts On Being A Woman.' However it was that you discovered Ephron, you can probably join the rest of us in saying that she definitely gave a voice to her female audience. She taught her fans about love, loss and everything else in between. A true role model, Ephron was a trail blazer and worked through her gender barrier in her career as a newspaper journalist, filmmaker and writer.

The New York Times wrote:
'She refuted the fear that powerful women repel men, that funny girls go home to their cats, that having it all means enjoying it alone.'

PETA against the Olsens

PETA Not A Fan Of The Olsens

No surprise here people, animal rights activists PETA is not a fan of the Olsen twins in the least. In fact, PETA 'trash talked' the twins ethical practices in a recently released a statement. Referring to the duo as the Trollsen twins as in "Hairy-Kate" and "Trashley" Trollsen. What's their latest complaint? The designers' $16,900 fur-covered backpack for The Row. PETA released the following statement to E! News:

'If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin — or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals ... What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators — who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain — who pay the dearest price.'

Fresh Faced

Most of us haven't realized it but, like many of our favorite edible treats, our beauty products have a shelf life. Yes dears, sadly our foundations and blushes will one day perish So why not store them the same way? Keep foundation and/or tinted moisturizer in the refrigerator. Your body heat combined with the coolness of the liquid makeup will create an amazingly perfect and smooth finish. We also like the idea of keeping a couple of cucumber slices handy for after work eye depuffing. Keeping your makeup in the fridge will also make it last longer – not to mention it feels great on a hot summer day!

So Fresh and So Clean

So Fresh and So Clean

So you were brave enough to buy an all-white outfit. There’s no turning back doll, you’ve proven yourself a warrior but there’s no need for the battle scars to show up on your whites. While your whites may seem like magnets for every stain in the book, here are a couple tips to keep those pesky stains at bay.

To protect your whites, (jeans and dresses) spray them once over with Scotch Guard to create a barrier between the fabric and any possible stains. Unfortunately, white clothing requires great care, so avoid washing them with any other clothes in the washer. Your best bet? Wash them after every two or three uses and either take them to the dry cleaners or hand wash them with mild, colorless soap. Never apply bleach directly on your clothes, unless they are 100% cotton. If your whites have the slightest percentage of any other fabric, such as spandex or polyester, forego the bleach.

Sweating can actually cause the less than attractive yellow stains left behind by perspiration and deodorant. To avoid stains, simply prinkle some baby powder on the underarms and collar, then iron, forming a barricade against the grime and oil responsible for the yellow discoloration.

Feel free to breathe a little easier.

Quote of the Day

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.

Blister-Free Summer

Blister-free pumps When it comes to footwear, it seems that the cuter the shoe, the more tortuous and painful they are. We've all had a pair or two of shoes that only lend themselves to one or two hours of standing, let alone walking. Come on, who are we kidding; anything that can make our lives a little easier and help us avoid foot pain is very much appreciated. There’s nothing worse than debuting your newest pair of sandals, only to be limping from painful and unsightly blisters a few hours later. Instead of plastering your feet with strategically placed band-aids, prevent blisters before they happen (I mean clearly, we’re not going to stop wearing the sky high heels of our footwear dreams). Clear deodorant, rubbed on areas of the feet prone to blistering, will ensure that you’ll spend the summer band-aid free!

Fragrance Tip
Wednesday June 27, 2012 No comments yet
title image

Make Your Fragrance Work For You

It starts in the morning with a couple light mists of perfume. You may notice a couple hours later that your perfume has worn off and proceed to douse yourself with perfume once again. Make your fragrance last by spritzing fragrance onto heat points of body (wrists, neck, décolletage) and then keep your hands off! Rubbing your wrists together or massaging the fragrance into your body can alter the fragrance. Also, avoid spraying your perfume directly onto your hair. Instead spray from a slight distance onto hands and let it dry briefly. Then pat your had or lightly run your hands through your hair. When fragrances interact directly with your hair it compromises hair’s health and moisture.

FYI: Summer heat and humidity intensifies your scent’s strength. Switch to the scented body lotion for the warmer months, to ensure your scent is lingering - not overpowering.

Makeup 101: Gals With Specs

If you were like most of us, you may have felt that glasses in grade school were a curse. Have no fear, a few tricks of the trade can have your peepers popping once again.

On Fashion...

This book has been creating quite a buzz inside and outside the fashion world and with good reason. 'Overdressed,' by Elizabeth L.Cline, takes a jab at cheaply made fashion. In short, there's a high cost to cheaply made fashion. So what's wrong with my $5 finds," you might ask. In her book, Cline breaks down the production process of 'cheaply' made clothes, linking the relationship between high and low fashion and the polarization between the two to the widening gap between rich and poor.

Cline admits to being intimidated by high fashion — she describes a visit to the Fendi store that ends with her thinking: "I wasn't supposed to be here. There was nothing I could afford."

This is a definite summer read for any conscious consumer. Cline approaches the fashion industry with great skepticism and while the aim is not to make you stop shopping for 'cheaply' made clothes, you might think twice about the story behind the price tag.

Dreaming India

Chanel went to India back in December and now you can too. Karl Lagerfeld's creative vision carried the show and the looks, but the exquisite makeup was due to Peter Philips,(creative director of Chanel makeup). Philips transformed the models into Indian goddesses on the runway. Now you can have a little piece of the sumptuous golds and smokey charcoal and noirs used in the show. The limited edition Bombay Express will be available on June 27.

'We wanted to create an almond-shaped black kohl eye - a graphic interpretation of an iconic Indian beauty ideal," Philips explained. "I kept the focus on the eyes, and achieved a matte pitch black make-up result by using a new shade of Illusion d'Ombre called Nirvana. I used Le Crayon Khôl in Black for the eyes and Mascara Inimitable Intense in Black on the lashes.'

Look Of The Day

It was just announced last week that Blake Lively is set to be the face of Gucci's perfume, 'Gucci Premiere.' That's exciting news for the 24 year-old actress who says she's always been a huge fan of Gucci. At Universal's Los Angeles premiere of her latest drama, 'Savages', directed by Oliver Stone, Lively stunned in Zuhair Murad. While some expected for the actress to be dressed in Gucci, she wore a sweetheart nude silk/tulle gown featuring an intricate pattern of hand-embroidered black beading. Lively finished off the look with soft retro waves and red lips.

We've compiled a list of some of our favorite sisters, some born into fame and some not. It'd be impossible for us to arrange a list of famous sisters without mentioning the pair who had their own show named after their sibling-hood. Tia and Tamera Mowry top our list of famous sisters. Beauty Secret Vinegar

Did You Know...

Surprise, surprise! We just found out that apple cider vinegar actually has wonderful skin and hair strengthening properties. We know that you might be cringing at the thought of vinegar, but take it from us, a little bit goes a long way. Because vinegar is acidic, it closes the pores of your skin and makes it extremely shiny. That's why you should mix vinegar with your body cream.

For shiny, brass-free hair: Most of the time, conditioners and shampoos aren't rinsed very well, so hair is [left] heavy and not shiny enough,. To avoid this, apply five drops of vinegar (mixed with cold water in a bowl) into the hair and scalp after shampooing, conditioning, and rinsing. But instead of washing it out, leave it in to degunk and debrass your strands.

For a healing bath: Mix a little apple cider vinegar in your bath water to let the anti-inflammatory properties soothe your itchy skin.

For a clean scalp: Apple cider vinegar has natural antifungal properties and therefore can help eliminate a flaky scalp caused by dandruff. Create your own cleansing shampoo by mixing a solution that's half water, half apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle and apply.

For a clear face: Vinegar balances the pH of the skin and acts as an astringent on oily complexions. Stir up a half-and-half mixture to use as a toner before your daily moisturizing routine.
We were also informed that apple cider vinegar can aid in the healing of bruises and cuts. When applied with a cotton ball over a period of time, it can actually lead to the minimizing of a bruise or scar.

To Dye For

The mention of anything 'tie-dye,' might conjure images of grade school summer camp, DIY tie dying with the neighborhood kids, or maybe even your hippie camp counselor or art teacher. While that might be true of old tie-dye, the new tie dye is anything but 'hippie.' The new tie-dye is all grown up and perfectly suitable for the office or a night out. A good tie-dye piece can be youthful and be dressed up or dressed now. Here are our favorite 'tie-dye' looks straight from the runway to the sidewalks.

Eye-Openers

Today's eye-opener comes from our sweet customer representative James Santos. Santos is the resident pastry chef and puts a smile on everyone's face around the office. Santos' eye openers teach us that home really is where the heart is.

I love baking and cooking! It not only feeds my body but my soul as well. I feel completely at home in the kitchen and enjoy making people happy with the special meals i create for them. I think food should not only be sustanance, but an experience.

celebrity style

Music has always been a part of my life; it's really the only one thing that I love as much as baking/cooking. I have been involved in music from a young age. I love how music can evoke so many emotions from everyone, even the most stoic of indivituals.

celebrity style

My home. Nothing is like home. I cannot explain how lucky I am that I grew up in paradise, quite literally. My upbringing drives me to work harder to reach my goals. Through music and cooking i wish to share the flavors and sounds of my home with everyone, so that they might have the opportunity to experience what i did.

Katie Holmes was spotted leaving her apartment in NYC wearing this beautiful ensemble. The look was effortless, weightless and very summer friendly. The saturated grape color of Holmes' maxi skirt contrasts wonderfully with the green sheer sleeveless top. Holmes topped her look off with nude colored espadrilles, (we love that the shoes didn't detract from the outfit). This, ladies, is what summer is made of.

Bronzers

Bronzers for Dark Skin

A good bronzer can add depth and a healthy glow to anyone's complexion. Those who have a deeper skin tone might have experienced their bronzer falling flat and dull instead of being left with a sun-kissed glow. Turn that frown around honey because we're here to tell you a glow is a comin'. All you need are a few tricks and the right color choice.

celebrity style

Picking your shade: Too light of a color can look ashy, but too dark of a color can look muddy. The best bronzer will be anywhere from one to two shades darker than your natural complexion — one that's not wimpy on pigment. Keep a lookout for descriptors like dark, deep, or higher-numbered labels. As far as tones go, bronzed, golden, amber, tawny, or copper hues are typically the most flattering.

The formulation: If you have normal to oily skin, then try a powder formulation. For dry skin, a cream or gel bronzer is probably the way to go. The finish: Whether you opt for a shimmery finish or a matte one, all women tend to look better with a sheer bronzer that allows the skin's natural colors to shine through. Essentially, you don't want it to appear as if your bronzer is just sitting atop your foundation or bare skin. For something different, try a shimmery finish on the forehead, temples, and upper cheekbones and a matte finish on the jawline and cheeks for contouring.

Applying it: Using a nice, big fluffy brush, sweep on your bronzer of choice everywhere the sun would hit: the temples, cheeks, along the hairline, the top of the nose, and the chin. As with most makeup, less is more; be sure to blend for the most natural feel.

Other things to keep in mind: When using a bronzer, you might find that you don't even need foundation, as one of a bronzer's benefits is that it helps to even out the skin tone. Pair your bronzed glow with sheer lips, and avoid going too brown with your shadow. The goal is to get a glowy, not monotone, effect.

Ferragamo Opens 'Marilyn' Exhibit

This past Tuesday, the 'Marilyn',(as in Monroe) exhibit opened at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo. A retrospective dedicated to the captivating star 50 years after her death, the exhibit features everything from photographs, primary documents (like a hand written order for Monroe’s shoes from Ferragamo), film clips, and costumes from her most iconic films (the shockingly sheer dress from Some Like It Hot, the pink number from Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, and that white dress that so famously blew up over a NYC subway grate from The Seven Year Itch among them). Monroe's dress from 'Some Like It Hot' is even on display as is commentary by curators Stefania Ricci and Sergio Risaliti on Marilyn's photographs. The exhibit makes a point to illustrate the classic art and sculpture Monroe There are plenty of shoes on exhibit as well-lots of them. After all, Ferragamo did get his start designing shoes for Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Ear and Now

It's time to turn the focus on the lobe again with a statement earring. If you've never worn anything like a stud or a simple hoop, now's the time to try, doll. Don't worry, it doesn't mean that your ear has to suffer a painfully heavy earring. Statement earrings were all over the runways this year and all over the streets. A good statement earring can be worn beautifully and casually during the day and can be worn at night for a dressed up look. You don't have to spend a fortune on a good statement earring, either. So get out there and make a statement!

Did You Know...

As women, we've all encountered it: the makeup samples at our favorite beauty store. For us, sometimes a little lunchtime visit to Sephora is in order. It's hard to resist the urge to swipe on a plethora of lip stains, dip into pots of gloss, slide on eye color and dab on some concealer. We've also seem the occasional cosmetic rule breaker, foregoing the provided cotton swabs or lip brushes and swiping the sample of lipstick right onto her lips. The shock! The horror! The bacteria? An undercover study performed by Good Morning America found that ound that one out of every five, or 20 percent, of samples we tested from 10 stores across two states showed significant growth of mold, yeast or fecal matter. Now that's definitely something to think about next time we even think about dabbing our fingers into anything and everything at the makeup counter. Your best bet: always use the provided makeup applicators. Also, if a product sample looks a bit dodgy, ask the person at the counter for a personal sample. Also keep in mind that most makeup stores have a 'buy and try' policy where you can purchase a product and return it for a full refund if you're not satisfied.

"People say it’s a difficult hairstyle to pull off, but I don’t see how it is tricky. I have very curly hair and I straighten it every day — it takes maybe two minutes. I can’t imagine anyone having a bigger challenge than I do in the kinkiness that is my crazy ‘fro. I can wear far more with short hair than I could when I had [long] hair. On The Highline

This week, New York felt its first day of summer. The temperature hung out in the 90s and didn't seem to come down at all. All throughout the city, hemlines grew shorter, shades came out in droves and water hydrants were popped open. But on Tuesday, a festive carnival party was thrown at the Highline, by Coach of course. Celebs on hand — including Dianna Agron, Anna Kendrick, Mamie Gummer, and Jessica Stam — mixed with fashion folk. Bartenders served up refreshing cocktails while party goers nibbled on appetizers and cotton candy. Now this is one carnival we wouldn't have missed for the world.

Saturday Do: Cook With The Gals

What could be better than gathering a group of your girlfriends and cooking together? Whether you've just moved to a new city and have one friend or live close to all of your girlfriends, make the time to meet with your girls and make something yummy. In the end, you'll discover it's more about the company than about the food. When possible, we'll make a day out of it and pick a recipe that we've never tried, going together to Chelsea Market or a farmers market and picking out some fresh ingredients. Pick up a bottle of wine or some really nice alcohol free spritzer and make your way home. It's always nice to set the tone and play your favorite music while you get to chopping, rinsing and boiling. This Saturday, get together with your girls and stay at home.

After the initial whispers about Yves Saint Laurent's possible name change, it's just been confirmed that Hedi Slimane, is changing the name of the game. "Yves" will be taken out of Yves Saint Laurent. That's right, no longer will we be able to murmur the beautiful, "Yves Saint Laurent," instead, we'll be saying "Saint Laurent Paris." The new name is expected to make its debut when Slimane's Spring '13 collection hits stores. A name debut? Wow. And what of the fashionably iconic YSL logo? No need to fear, certain shoe soles and makeup products are said to still feature the original YSL logo designed by Ukrainian-French artist A. M. Cassandre. It only seems fitting that the new name is going to take some getting used to.

Emma Stone went over to the dark side at the premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man in Paris. Stone was absolutely smoldering in Gucci's embroidered black gown and black Christian Louboutin leather pumps. The fact that she opted for black stockings in the summer was quite admirable, but it did add to the overall drama of the look.

We especially love:
Wine-stained lips and unkempt waves added femme fatale drama to the actress's smoldering look.

Being referred to as 'the other Olsen' seems like an all too familiar introduction to the 23 year old starlet. Younger sister to the fashion empresses and once child stars, (i.e. Full House's drool worthy toddler twins), Elizabeth is a golden girl all on her own. Despite the Olsen twins' recent big win at the CFDA for Womenswear Designer of the Year, Elizabeth is steering clear from the fashion crowd. Instead, Elizabeth is going indie, as in films. Her debut in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene,' was more than well received. It cast the spotlight on Olsen, recognizing her undeniable talent. In a recent interview, Elizabeth stated that while she's a huge supporter of her sisters' clothes, her sisters don't dress her. The way we see it, Elizabeth is finding her own voice in both film and fashion worlds.

Don't think of dumpy, worn or overly athletic soles, think of light, comfortable and stylish sneakers that'll have your feet smiling on their days off. Oh the sign of a truly committed Hollywood actress. There's the losing and gaining of weight, the taking on of accents, dying of hair and the occasional shaven head. We're looking back at some Hollywood dames that went under the razor's edge all in the name of a film role. While these women went bald for a movie role, they set a beautiful and positive example for other women who bald their heads when undergoing chemotherapy or other treatments. While not all of us may bald our heads in our lifetime, it's a liberating experience to realize that hair may come and grow, but the stamp of true beauty is confidence.

Style Maker: Iris Apfel

When we found out that Iris Apfel held a discussion with teen blogger Tavi Gevinson at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this past Sunday, we were intrigued. The 90 year-old businesswoman, interior design guru and fashion icon has a style all her own. Apfel, who was born and raised in Queens, doesn't let her age play a factor in her fashion sense. In fact, she says her 'adventuresome fashion sense has increased with age.' Apfel was featured in Ari Cohen's book, Advanced Style where she revealed some tidbits of her eclectic and texture rich closet and apartment. Who's afraid of aging again? A look at Apfel's smiling face, rounded glasses and colorful wardrobe makes us hope we can be half as vivacious as she is when we're her age. Like she says kids, 'style is ageless.'

During a recent interview, the slender Apfel said: "I don't care what people think...I learned a long time ago...I was 19 and had a very traumatic experience...and I learned that I have to go to bed with myself and that I have to please myself...and as long as I don't go out of my way to offend anybody that I love, I'll do my own thing."

Summer Do Side swept French Braid
Tuesday June 19, 2012 No comments yet

Summer Do: Side French Braid

We’ve all noticed the reoccurrence of braids on the streets and runways and one braid we’re boiling over with excitement to try is the side swept French braid. The beautifully relaxed and soft braid slightly drapes and is the epitome of effortless summer chic.

To get the look:
Part damp hair on the right side. Next, take about a two-inch chunk of hair from the front of the right hairline, and begin a French braid. To start a French braid, section this portion of hair into three even strands, keeping them separated with your fingers (whichever ones feel most comfortable to you). Now, start a normal braid; take the right strand and cross it over the middle strand. Next, take the left strand and cross it over the middle strand.

Once you have this small foundation braid, begin adding more hair with each crossover. To do this, gather a small bit of hair from the hairline, add it to the rightmost strand, and then cross it over the middle strand. Pull it tight, but keep the strands separated at all times. Repeat on the other side by gathering a small bit of hair closest to the side part (away from the hairline), adding it to the leftmost strand, and then crossing it over the middle strand.

Continue this braiding pattern until you are about one inch away from the right neckline. At this point, start to braid horizontally across to the left neckline.

Try to gather all the hair into the French braid by the time you hit the bottom of the left ear. Once all the hair is incorporated, finish braiding traditionally. Secure with an elastic band. Let the tail hang low or pin up for an updo. Spray lightly with a hairspray to prevent flyaways.

Summer Scarves

Before you roll your eyes at the thought of a scarf in the dead of summer, know that we're not referring to thick and wintery scarves but light as a feather scarves. Yes, summer calls for whimsical, silk-printed scarves that add a hint of pattern and color to any outfit. We love the look of a lightly undone scarf, whether it's wrapped around your neck or head. Even if you opt for a bold printed scarf, it's small enough that it won't overwhelm your outfit.Besides, if a scarf can lend an air of Jackie O's grace this summer, why not?

Weekend Finds

This past weekend, we decided to treat our taste buds to something a bit foreign. Throwing caution to the wind, we visited Chinatown and scouted out the freshest of fruits from the street vendors. Our objective was to try fruits we had never tried before, fruits that almost scared us. Our interest has peaked every time we've passed by these foreign treasures and so we picked up a jack fruit, persimmon, lychee, Japanese guava, dragon fruit, Japanese coconut and mangoesteen. We found a cute park in Soho and sliced open our fruits. The colors were gorgeous and the flavors were divine.

Lilac Colored Lids

With wedding season in full swing, we thought we'd feature a perfectly purple look for all lilac lovers out there. Don't worry, we don't want you to look like you have a black and blue eye; our goal is to provide you with inspiration from the runway looks, celebrities and everyday citizens that donned the fresh wash of lavender on their lids. Remember: because you want your eyes to be the focus of your look, keep the rest of your makeup rather subtle. Opt for a nude or soft pink lip, (matte lipsticks work beautifully; if you want some shine, add a clear coat of lip gloss). Sweep a soft blush across the apples of your cheeks and voila!

Golden Girl: Emma Stone

Emma Stone is a true Golden Girl; what with her successful film career, her handful of endorsements and iconic style, (not to mention equally budding beau Andrew Garfield). The 23 year old was spotted wearing a necklacelike headband that inspired true jewel envy. The floral wreath chain was placed lightly on top of her tousled waves, which were swept into an updo. Our verdict: absolutely perfect!

Get a similar look by spritzing damp strands with a sea salt-infused beach spray, such as Josie Maran Bohemian Waves. Then scrunch your hair with your hands as you blow-dry to create a carefree effect like Emma's. After loosely tossing hair back into a messy bun, top the style off with a golden headpiece to add glamour to an otherwise casual style.

Our inspiration for this post is the late and great Elizabeth Taylor. While we wait for Lohan to wrap on her E. Taylor movie, we'l look back at the queen of rhinestones. Diamonds may have been Marilyn Monroe's best friend, but when it came to Taylor, the jet black haired, blue eyed beauty always donned rhinestones of some sort. Decades later, classic rhinestones have turned up in brighter, neon colors. Play jewelry has never been more fun.

Fill you life with colour, laughter and a little mischief this Saturday with the help of water balloons. Face paint is no longer just for tots. Celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Natasha Khan, (Bat for Lashes) and Vanessa Hudgens have been spotted with sweet and flirty face paint designs. There's something about the hippie-inspired allure of face paint that makes it ideal for summer festivals and parties. Peace, love and face paint, babe. Our recommendation: Mac Acrylic Face Paints. They are safe and hypoallergenic and wash off with soap and water. Besides, the fact that MAC has a line of acrylic paints is pure awesome.

Hair Repair

If your ends seem to be running away from each other and splitting every which way, don’t think it’s the hot and humid summer days. We’ve had our share of blaming the weather when our hair’s looking less than fresh. While regular trims are a good way to keep hair at its healthiest, it doesn’t always prevent the occasional tangling, snagging and crispy hair that's anything but smooth? Did you know that heating tools, too-tight pony tails and bobby pins and hair ties can be part of the cause? Here are five ways you may be ruining your hair. Think of this as tough love.

1. It all starts in the shower

Did you know that when your hair is wet or damp, it’s at its very weakest point? The water breaks down the natural hydrogen bonds in the hair. It’s best if you work your conditioner through hair with a paddle brush or wide tooth comb to detangle your hair. Invest in an option that's intended to be used on wet hair. Remember, always detangle from the ends up.

2. Beware of the towel turban!

Surprisingly, wrapping our wet hair in a towel post-shower can cause the greatest damage. Stop and dry your hair more gingerly. When towel drying hair, squeeze the hair with a towel rather than rubbing and matting hair into a tangled mess.

celebrity style

3. Heat drying fries your hair--but there are ways around that. Cut down on drying time by soaking up excess water. When heat-styling, you need to move fast and use even tension. When using a curling iron, be sure to roll the hair on an angle away from your head so you don’t dent hair with the clamp. Use the straightening iron in smooth passes -- there is no need to press hard and pull hair, it only stretches the hair while you bake it, which causes severe damage over time.

4. Why you should shake things up in the hairdo department. When you put tension or stress on the hair you are causing some level of damage. Women mostly put their hair up and anchor it in the same place. Repeating stress in the same place over and over will cause damage. Same goes for bobby pins. When done in the same location on a regular basis, it can cause damage to the hair and stress to your scalp.

5. It’s all about product. Protect your hair with the right products. Hair serum can actually stave off the effects of humidity and heat when styling the hair. Coconut oil is a miracle worker as the lauric acid in it helps for the regrowth and Vitamin E which helps regenerate your hair.

Chloé Attitudes

Ever wanted to go to Paris? Now, you have another reason and it starts with the letter “C.” Chloé is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and from to be quite honest, the fashion house doesn’t seem to have aged a bit, what with its eternal youthful disposition. ‘Attitudes’ is the first exhibition dedicated solely to the brand, showcasing its seven-decade span of dressing the "modern woman."

The exhibition, which is located in Paris' Palais de Tokyo, features the top 70 designs from the brand’s nine key designers. Let us remind you that Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, and Lagerfeld all took turns at the helm of the fashion powerhouse.

What would a Chloé exhibit be without the angelic swathes of chiffon and a soft lady-like peach? And although Chloé has become synonymous with bohemian chic, Clare Waight Keller reassures that it’s so much more. “The process of researching this anniversary show has been enlightening for me as it contradicted my preconceptions of Chloé’s design history completely," Keller states. "Whereas I’d imagined something very Bohemian in spirit, in reality, it’s much, much more than that. What we found is quite provocative and powerful. They speak to an independent woman who embraces the challenges of modern life.“

The exhibit will be on display from September 29 to November 18. If you’re unable to make it, let the fact that 16 of the most iconic pieces will be reissued and originals will be displayed at Chloé boutiques next February, (Stella’s pineapple dress and Lagerfeld’s violin dress). Not a bad consolation prize.

Last night, Queens was apparently the place to be with celebrities like Jamie King, Zoe Saldana, Abbie Cornish and Patricia Clarkson celebrating Persol at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens last night. Last night’s red carpet was a different kind of red carpet, as celebrities donned sunglasses without looking silly.

Jamie King wore a beautiful Peter Pilotto dress that was the epitome of summer. The neckline was sporty, the blue wave print was perfect and her accessories didn’t interfere with her overall look. Zoe Saldana’s embellished top had a military air to it and her forest green bottoms added just enough color. Handbag designer Rebecca Minkoff looked chic in a white button-down and blue skirt and cute neon clutch. What was your favorite look?

Drop Waist Dresses

The twenties were all over the runways this past Spring and made making appearances in films such as The Artist and The Great Gatsby. We're here to say that drop waist dresses can absolutely be worn without fear of being a little too 'Downtown Abbey.' One thing we love about the drop waist dress is how flattering it is. The bodice is billowy and falls away from the torso and the lower waist elongates the body. Our entire Tadashi Collection features some of the most beautiful twenties inspired drop waist dresses. The fact that Jazz Age fashion is popping up amidst the neon minis, studded everything and high-low dresses, is quite refreshing. The twenties are clearly never going away.

Though twenties fashion is very of-the-moment,(i.e.The Great Gatsby) did Perry pull off the look or should she have opted for a less literal look?

Summer Sweaters

Summer Sweaters

We've all seen it done: the mixing of seasons. Whether the girl on the train wore a pair of UGG boots with a pair of shorts or a sweater layered on top of a romper, the mixing and not-so-matching of seasons happens every year. We say, it can be done if you keep a couple things in mind. Winter sweaters are different from lighter Spring and Summer friendly sweaters. Yes, we just used Summer and sweaters in the same sentence, but alas we assure you, there's no need to sweat. Choose a fabric that is light and cool such as cotton or a silk blend. Style it with a pair of cut off shorts or flowing skirts/dresses. The point is to provide plenty of ventilation in other areas of your body. Remember to also keep it light. Feel free to wear loose knit sweaters with nothing but a light bra underneath. The holes in the sweater will provide bits of fresh air during the summer.

If the Shoe Fits

If The Shoe Fits

Have you ever wondered what your shoes say about you? As the old adage goes, ‘Don’t judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes.’ Unfortunately, that adage doesn't apply to a recent study conducted at the University of Kansas, people were able to accurately judge demographic and personality traits of complete strangers simply by looking at their most frequently worn shoes. The results? It turns out 90 percent of a person's characteristics can be determined just by examining the style, cost, color and condition of their footwear.

As expected, extroverts wore flashy shoes, wealthy people wore more expensive shoes and conscientious people kept their footgear cleaner. Ankle boot wearers tended to be more aggressive than the rest. We were surprised to see that those who wore uncomfortable looking shoes tended to be calm people.

The one demographic that participants in the study had a hard time judging were those with flat and plain shoes. Apparently, shoe owners who described themselves as "aloof and repressive," had a hard time forming relationships and weren't able to communicate many of their traits in real-life. Will this study change our shoe choices? Probably not; b it’s always fun to entertain the latest scientific findings regarding fashion.

This past Monday evening, Stella McCartney held her Resort Presentation at New York City’s Marble Cemetery. It might sound like an odd choice for a venue, but we assure you, it’s not. We discovered the spot last week while strolling in the East Village and thought it was a private park. The fact that McCartney’s carnival themed resort presentation took place there, gave us goosebumps, (the good kind, of course). The star studded event featured McCartney’s 2013 looks, which were awash in light baby blues, pinks, plaids and crisp whites. The looks were structured with pleats and sharp collars and lines, but were still feminine at heart. Guests gave their best shot on the Strongman and dined on veggie burgers and ice cream sandwiches. Among the famous faces were Greta Gerwig, Amy Poehler, Solange Knowles, Anne Hathaway and Lauren Hutton.

Funny Girl: Kristen Wiig

If you watched a single episode of Saturday Night Live between the years of 2005 to 2012, you might have come across bright eyed comedianne, Kristen Wiig. You might have even succumbed to her unique comedic style. Wiig's ability to be physical in her comedy set her apart from the rest of her SNL counterparts, both male and female. Her seven year stint on the SNL led to some of the show’s most memorable characters including Target Lady, Gilly, Judice, Suzie Orman, Kat, (Kat & Garth) and Bjork. During her career at SNL, Wiig also starred in movies such as Adventureland, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Bridesmaids, which she also co-wrote. Despite Wiig’s retirement from SNL last month, the comedienne said she has more projects, including films lined up. Although Wiig was best known for her mischievous charm, her sense of style was undeniable. Cheers to one funny and stylish girl.

Chip-Free Nails

Chip-Free Nails

Ladies, we all know the routine. You find the most perfect hue of nail polish that promises to fortify your nails, make them grow longer in a week’s time and give you at least, 10 days of wear. The truth: we end up with more chips on our nails by the third day that we forget they were ever supposed to make our nails more resilient. It’s at this point that you either do a little touch up and hope for the best or carry on with your week rocking those chipped edges and varnish smears until you have time to start anew. Enough is enough! We recently stumbled upon a top coat that is supposed to be the end all of all our nail quandaries.

According to the New York Times’ blog, The Cut, Essie No Chips Ahead Chip Free Top Coat is the ultimate weapon against nail chipping. Quick Tip: When you’re getting a manicure or painting your own nails, make sure and add a quick layer to the tips of your nails, sort of like a French tip, because it’ll help your polish last longer. Also, make sure to always use separate top and base coats. Two-in-ones never work, although they promise miracles. It’ll only take you an extra two minutes to apply the top coat and it’ll make a world of a difference.

Blast From The Past: Drop Crotch Pants

In the 1980s rapper MC Hammer rose to fame with the help of some very flashy, Aladdin-esque bottoms known as harem pants. The pants were hot for a while and then went into fashion hibernation for years. Circa 2009, they rose to fashion again and were on runways and celebrities everywhere. Is it safe to say that harem pants were a trend we never knew how we felt about? We loved to hate them and hated to love them, but somehow, we kind of just ended up with a pair in our closet, wore them out once and then just wore them at home as pajama pants. Jennifer Aniston was spotted out in with a pair of drop crotch denim in Austin and reactions were mixed. Will you be wearing this jeans in the next coming months?

The festival begins on June 14 and runs through June 17 with music acts including Twin Sister, Jens Lekman, Of Montreal, Beach Fossils and Caveman, to name a few. The Northside Festival is NYC’s largest and most accessible “discovery festival," which means you'll get a first listen at up and coming bands from across the country. Northside showcases what’s next in music, film, art and entrepreneurship, all in a location described as a melting pot for creative types: Brooklyn.

On Saturday, Northside Art will take over the block of Bedford Ave from N8th-N9th Street as part of the Williamsburg Walks series – temporary wall units, interactive installations and sculptures will be staggered throughout the block for live painting performances, graffiti and other participation oriented works. On Sunday, over 80 artists who live and work in Williamsburg and Greenpoint will open their studios to the public to engage in conversation. Music and art weekend? Why not?! To check out performances, go here.

Pretty Palazzos

During our visit to a vintage store in the East Village last week, we spotted a pair of pretty palazzo pants and the nostalgia set in. Your mother may have even had a pair or two back in her day. This summer, invite the flirtatious and carefree sway of a pair of palazzo pants. Forget your restricting skinnies, it's all about the wide legged silk/crepe lovin' from a perfect pair of palazzos. Palazzo pants rose to popularity in the 1960s and 1970s by actresses such as Greta Garbo and Katharine Hepburn. While the prints on palazzos have changed throughout the decades, their liberating and free-flowing charm remains the same. Not sure how to wear them? We suggest pairing them with a simple sheer V-neck cotton shirt or white button down shirt. Slip on a pair of classic T-strap sandals or leather thong sandals and you're good to go. Take a cue from these lovely ladies.

Holy Huaraches!

We have a serious shoe crush on huaraches. These woven leather sandals, originated in Mexico in the 1930s and were originally made with a rubber tire sole. A few years later, huaraches became the popular sandal of choice and spread like wildfire. We love the look of huaraches with loose maxi skirts and dresses, cuffed boyfriend jeans and summer dresses. While the traditional huarache is flat, the sandal also looks great when it's revamped. Whether you opt for a traditional brown pair or a colorful pair of high heeled ones, you'll be sure to stand out.

Hollywood's Working Women

She Works Hard For The Money

Last week, we learned that Republican senators shot down the Paycheck Fairness Act, a that would have required employers to prove that any disparities in pay amongst equal-level employees were not based on gender. According to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, there's still a possibility that the bill will see a new day, but in the meantime, women everywhere will have to wait.

Not to worry ladies: We’re looking back at some of the hardest working women from film and television, whose on-screen personas have been fighting the good fight for decades. In the words of Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski so eloquently put it following the vote: "Put on your lipstick! Square your shoulders! Suit up and let's fight for a new American revolution where women are paid for equal work! Let's end wage discrimination in this century once and for all." Donna Summer’s, She Works Hard For The Money, seems to be popping off as our anthem right about now.

Cheeky Ladies

If you want to forego the tanning salons and rooftops this summer, add a little rouge or bronzer to your cheeks. Nothing wakens up the complexion and gives a pop of freshness like flirty cheeks. We’re not saying to go overboard, just brush on some warmer tones and you’ll be set for the summer. Before you apply your blush/bronzer, make sure and blow off the excess before you apply it. Don’t be afraid to sweep a bit over the bridge of your nose, a little on your forehead and tip of your chin as well. Think of places the sun would naturally hit your face. Vibrant corals, bronzes and natural pinks complement a vast range of the season's key looks, like floral or tropical prints, pastels, and monochromatic or minimalist dressing. But best of all, everyone can try this trend and make it look effortless like Emma Stone, Alessandra Ambrosia and Drew Barrymore.

On Trend: Rompers

Even if you don’t make it to the Hamptons this summer, you can’t still look as resort ready as ever with a cool romper. As New York women, we’ve all experienced the trials of 100-degree subway platforms—melting makeup, the makeshift magazine fans, and the embarrassingly ineffective deodorant. If a romper can provide style and a fresh escape from the sweltering summer, we are most definitely on it. Don’t worry, rompers aren't just for 19 year olds; different rompers call for different occasions. So whether your summer consists of music festivals, picnics, boating trips, (ooh la la) or just exploring the city, a romper is perfect for surviving those crowds. It's the perfect not-too-dressy go-to, transitioning easily from beach fun to beach cocktails. Don't forget the fact that it's super easy to pack.

Did You Know

Did You Know...

Take note, ladies. A recent study by Very.co.uk with 1,000 women in the U.K. between the ages of 18-25 about how often they think about fashion, revealed it’s approximately 91 times a day. At first, we found it hard to believe, but even as we sat and read this fact, we were thinking about the cute shoes we had just seen on a coworker, so we must admit, guilty as charged. Very.co.uk's Style Director, Rebecca Elderfield said, “For many young women, fashion is so much more than a casual hobby or mild interest — it's a way of life, and the results of the survey confirm that." So we admit we’re speaking to a biased set, we know (you're reading a fashion blog for a reason, right?), but it seems that 91 times a day is still an astronomically high amount, with fashion working its way into our consciousness once every 11 minutes and 23 seconds. What specific thoughts are capitalizing on our mind grapes? Dresses, it turns out. On average, women surveyed looked at fashion websites six times a day, 62% have gotten lost in their fashion thoughts at work, and 11% think about fashion more often than their friends, family, or work. Now, that's something to think about.

Devil Wears Prada Sequel

Devil Wears Prada Sequel

If you were like most of us, it was quite hard for you to pull yourself away from your copy of Devil Wears Prada. Author Lauren Weisberger is now working on Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, a sequel to her debut novel The Devil Wears Prada. Simon & Schuster will be publishing the follow-up in April 2013 — 10 years after the release of the original.

In 2003, The Devil Wears Prada reached the top of the best-seller lists and was eventually made into the hit 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The novel, which is partly based on Weisberger’s own experience as second assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — told the story of Andrea “Andy” Sachs, an aspiring journalist dealing with the increasingly unreasonable demands of her boss Miranda Priestly.

Are you ready for it? Revenge Wears Prada is set to pick up eight years after Andy parted ways with Miranda on bad terms. Andy is now editing The Plunge, the hottest bridal magazine around, alongside Emily, her one-time Runway nemesis turned current BFF. While Andy is planning her own wedding to Max, a handsome media scion, she remains haunted by her impeccably heeled former boss — and the magazine world being as small as it is, it’s only a matter of time before she hears the dreaded syllables “Ahn-dre-ah!” again. We certainly can’t wait for this exciting read.

Rimmed Eyeliner

Rimmed Eyeliner

We still remember when our mothers told us not to line the inside of our eyes or the bottom lash line because it would cause us to get a stye. Well, big news; extreme bold lined eyes are making big waves on and off the runways. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Tia Mowry, and Kim Kardashian, have all been spotted wearing enviable liner looks on both top and bottom lash lines. Don’t fret, applied the right way and with the right tools, you can avoid that all too annoying stye and confidently give the eye to whoever tickles your fancy. Fully rimmed eyes are sure to pop, and here are three options for the bravest beauty to the demure damsel.

celebrity style

The standout way: If you're looking to attract attention for your daring makeup feats, then a heavy-handed cat-eye liner (like Anja) is your top choice. Be sure that the rest of your face has neutral tones, though, to prevent the look from being too heavy.

celebrity style

Something in between: Not that brazen? Try coordinating a colored eyeliner with your ensemble like Tia. Line the upper lashes and top off with a pigmented pencil or shadow on the lower lash lines.

The more tame version: Finally, if you want a slightly more toned-down approach à la Katherine, try using a gold-flecked highlighter in the inner corners for a bright, open look. Then, pair it with a bright lip.

Opening Night of The Little Black Jacket

Forget the Manolos and Choos, last night it was all about the little black jacket. Chanel’s premiere supporters gathered at 18 Wooster Street in Soho to toast the opening of Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld’s anticipated exhibition, “The Little Black Jacket”—a collection of photographs that showcases Chanel’s iconic jacket.

Guests including Linda Evangelista, Pharrell Williams, Lily Collins and Zoe Kravitz crowded into the entrance way of the compact gallery space. Those featured in the forthcoming Little Black Jacket book—which the exhibit is celebrating—searched the space for their portraits. The book, which features 113 people, includes some of fashion’s big muses (Sarah Jessica Parker, Tilda Swinton, Jane Birkin), fresh faces (Elizabeth Olsen and both Fanning sisters) and even Lagerfeld’s own godson, 3-year-old Hudson Kroenig. If you’re in New York, you can check out the exhibit starting today through June 15, noon to 7 pm. The book, which is already available for pre-order, will be available on August 15th.

Dover Street Market Is Coming to NYC

Attention New Yorkers, Dover Street Market is opening in NYC. The Comme des Garcons owned multibrand market is set to open in 2013 and although the details are still on the hush, we can hardly contain our excitement. There are Dover Street Market locations in London and Tokyo, all of which carry amazing collections from from the likes of Rick Owens, Peter Pilotto, and Celine, they carry a majority of the Comme des Garçons lines, too, the latest of which is in collaboration with A Bathing Ape. Dover Street Market was founded in 2004, by CDG designer Rei Kawakubo and has become a multi level mecca of shopping wonderment with the latest cutting edge fashion. In an article by The New York Times, Adrian Joffe, (Rei Kawakubo’s husband and business partner),‘the New York DSM will be in an area where there are no other fashion stores so that we can give a totally new identity and hence transform the area — like we did in SoHo and Chelsea.’

Saturday Do

Searching for information in a book might seem like an ancient practice. In fact, library cards have been replaced with kindles, iPads and Google Search. Remember the tireless search of a subject in grade school? First, the sifting of the library card catalog, then the jotting of the call number and finally the satisfaction after feeling out the spines until a winner was found. Ah and the smell of yellowed books; now tell us, what can compare with that? This Saturday, look up an answer in a book, whether you buy a book, borrow a book or find a book.

Cute Caftans

The caftan was first introduced in Persia around 600 B.C. and was known for its beautifully sweeping and ethereal silhouette. The print and material in caftans may have changed throughout the ages, but the flow is still the same. Without further ado, we'd like to reintroduce the caftan. A little caftan goes a long way. These sheer overdresses are perfect on and off the beach. With their long sleeves and loose silhouette, caftans are boho chic to a T. The traditionally one size cover lets you flow freely and allows for air to billow any which way it pleases. The added ventilation that caftans produce during the hot and sticky summer months is much appreciated. Caftans are a no-brainer and an absolute summer must have.

The Big Bang

The Big Bang

The bang is back; and in a very big way. A handful of celebrities such as Beyoncé, Rachel McAdams, Ivanka Trump and Nicole Kidman, introduced their new fringe at the Cannes Film Festival last, pegging 2012 as the year of the bang.

Mara Rooney, star of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, jumped into stardom with her gorgeous bold and thick fringe. In fact, a recent article in Vogue titled, ‘The Mara Rooney Effect,’ credited the actress with the widespread trend on runways in New York, London and Milan. Not bad for the heroine of the year.

It would be impossible to have a conversation about bangs without mentioning fringe queen, Zooey Deschanel. The quirky actress and singer has become synonymous with bangs. In fact, she recently signed an endorsement deal with Pantene because of her thick, luscious bangs. Seeing Dechanel without bangs is kind of like seeing a Christmas tree without ornaments. Deschanel has said that her bangs have their own personality.

Before you take the big plunge, consult with your hairstylist and see what bangs might go well with your hair type and length. Here are a few leading ladies that donned the face framing fringe this year.

Every girl in New York City is familiar with HBO’s ‘Girls.’ The show, which centers around four twenty something girls, (not women) in Brooklyn, has spawned subway conversations, office recaps and a slew of online fan pages and forums. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the show, it isn’t exactly Sex & The City part deux. One similarity we did find between both shows was the ability to relate to the characters through their personalities and fashion sense. All Tied Up In Knots

Add a sweet and feminine touch to your outfits by adding a knot. We remember the trend back in the 90s with billowy pirate inspired blouses. We admit the look wasn’t all that cool back then, but as most things in fashion, all things old are new again. This past year knotted blouse and maxi skirts were seen everywhere. This trend works especially well on maxi skirts/dresses that are too long. A knotted button up or oversized shirt look well with boyfriend jeans or loose maxi skirts. Will you wear the trend this summer?

Sleek Parted Ponytails

Sleek Parted Ponytail

We doubt there will be many days during the summer months in the city when you’ll actually want to leave your hair down. Chances are, you’ll probably opt for a ponytail or a bun. We’re thinking back to this past Spring’s runways and the sleek parted ponytails we saw plenty of. Apart from keeping your hair away from your face and neck, it’s fashionably sleek. Here’s how to get the look in under 5 minutes.

1.Get your hair ready for styling by applying an anti-frizz product, such as Sebastian Laminates Rich Hair Spray Anti-Frizz Thermal Shine Styler, $29.99. Then, begin smoothing your hair using a blow dryer and round brush.

2. Next, part hair in the middle, and use a large paddle brush to further smooth hair.

3. Pull your hair snugly into a ponytail using a ponytail holder that matches your hair color if possible. Also, if you want to add volume and length, try attaching ponytail extensions.

4. For a cleaner look, wrap your own hair around the ponytail holder, then secure it with bobby pins underneath.

5. Finish the look with a light hairspray.

Keep A Breast: Tokyo LOVE Show

On May 23rd, The Keep A Breast Foundation launched Keep A Breast Japan in Tokyo with the Tokyo Love Show. The Keep A Breast Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to eradicate breast cancer by exposing young women to methods of prevention, such as early screening and support. One of the foundation’s projects that was revealed at the Tokyo LOVE Show were the breast casts, which combine sculpture and symbolic artistry. The one of a kind plaster forms of a woman’s torso is customized by artists and auctioned off to raise funds for KAB’s breast cancer awareness programs. Athletes, artists and celebrities, such as Dita Von Teese, Shepard Fairey, Katy Perry, Pink and Lisa Anderson, have also participated in the cause. The end result yields a beautiful and hopeful art form.

Lindsay Lohan portrays Elizabeth Taylor in 'Liz & Dick'

The first photo of Lindsay Lohan portraying Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie, 'Liz & Dick' was released a couple days ago and the resemblance, to say the least, is uncanny. The 25 year-old who's become notorious for her run ins with the law and courthouse antics was commissioned to portray Taylor earlier this year. Australian actor, Grant Bowler, will portray Taylor's Richard Burton. The film, which follows the tumultuous relationship between Taylor and Burton is set to air later this year.

Quote of the Day

Look at the sky: that is for you. Look at each person's face as you pass on the street: those faces are for you. And the street itself, and the ground under the street, and the ball of fire underneath the ground: all these things are for you. There are as much for you as they are for other people. Remember this when you wake up in the morning and think you have nothing.

Valentino to design for the NYC Ballet

The New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala will have an added bit of glam thanks to Valentino. The designer veteran, who retired from the world of fashion design in 2008, said he was more than happy to contribute to the New York City Ballet in such a way. The gala, which takes place on September 20 will honor the legendary couturier with a performance of George Balanchine’s “Rubies”—a tribute to the designer’s signature red. In return, Valentino is creating costumes for three works that will be performed during the evening, including a new ballet set to Tschaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.”
This is not the first time Valentino designed for ballet since his retirement; he designed costumes for the Vienna Ballet in 2009. Sarah Jessica Parker and Valentino’s longtime business partner Giancarlo Giammetti are set to co-chair the evening.

Lady Gaga's Meat Dress: Part Deux

Lady Gaga's meat dress didn't make the cut. No, this isn't a cheesy joke, although we kind of wish it was. Gaga was forced to cancel her concert in Indonesia on June 3 because her new meat dress, (her other meat dress is at the cleaners) posed a security threat. There was fear over threats that had been made in regards to her fleshy costume and stage set up. The Indonesian leg of her tour was said to be the biggest part of her Asian tour, with an estimated total of 52,000 disappointed fans. What do you think of Gaga's dress?

Timeless Classic: Stripes

In the 1950s, Audrey Hepburn donned stripes, setting the classic design into stone. The petite actress was best known for her perfectly manicured look and tailored outfits. While anyone can agree that Hepburn looked great in everything she wore, the striped blouse she wore beautifully really help solidify a timeless classic. Over half a century later and stripes are still being worn by women on and off the runways.

Olsen Sisters Snab CFDA Award

Pint-sized, glued at the hip twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took home the big win at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award. The Olsen twins scored the big win of the night, beating out Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler designers, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, for the womenswear designer of the year award. The award seems to be the icing on the cake for the sisters as they are launching a Superga store in SoHo in the next coming weeks. The Olsens, along with shoe guru Steve Madden, are the creative directors behind the Italian shoe company. Something tells us these 25 year-old sisters have more upcoming ventures up their sleeves.

Denim Cutoffs

In grade school, perfectly cuffed shorts used to be the standard. Any sign of wear or possible fringe on the bottom was enough to send you into a frenzy. Then, you became a teenager and the shorter the shorts, the better. Distressed detail and whiskering on denim was suddenly cool. What we’ve learned is that denim cutoffs don’t have to be frowned upon and can be worn quite fashionably. Let the cutoffs be the staple of your outfit and build your outfit around them. We love a slightly looser denim cutoff with plenty of distressing. Make tiny slits on either side of your shorts so that you can cuff them comfortably if need be.

Vivid Matte Lips

Match your healthy summer glow with a bright matte lip. We know wearing a full face of makeup isn't anyone's ideal of a summery look. We suggest a light tinted moisturizer with SPF and a bright matte lipstick. The saturated color will pop in the summer rays and will wear well throughout the day. A small dab of primer on your lips before applying the lip color will make it last longer and help it set.

Summer Do: Top Knot

There aren’t many looks from your childhood that you can still pull off in your adulthood. Fortunately, the chic top knot looks great at any age. So simple and so effortless; the top knot will keep the nape of your neck hair free and have you feeling fresh during the sweltering summer days. The great thing about the top knot. It looks stylish both when it's messy and sleek and can be worn from morning to evening. Top knots tend to work best with second day hair, so you can make the best of your blow out with a top knot on the second day.

Summer Must Have: Denim Vest

Happy Monday! We couldn’t think of a better way to introduce the week than by taking a trip back to the 90s. Well, not really, but kind of. A denim vest still gives the same attitude as your favorite jean jacket but without the sleeves. It’s a perfect item for the summer because you can throw it on any strapless summer dress or spaghetti strap blouse and get a little coverage. We’ve seen a definite trend in denim this past Spring going well into the Summer. We love vests that look a little undone, a little acid wash and all attitude. Whether you opt for a cropped denim vest or a slightly oversized one, remember to always keep feminine touched throughout the rest of your outfit.

Golden Eye

Add a bit of luxe to your look this summer with a shimmery gold eye shadow. Sweep on the gilded shadow like Emily Blunt, Amber Heard, Rihanna, and Kate Mara. This metallic hue warms up all skin tones, and can be worn a variety of ways. Wear it with a clear natural lip for a natural look or a red deep look for the evening. The gilded age of shadows isn’t limited to just one hue. Get flirty with a warm rose gold, or line your eyes with a sultry weathered shade.

Mordekai Jewelry In Stores

Mordekai Jewelry In Stores

Ken Borochov, creator of Mordekai, a line of bold costume jewelry and headpieces, has literally let his work go to his head. That’s okay, because the jewelry designer has an extensive line of head pieces and funky statement necklaces and bracelets. Borochov said he gets his ideas from the hardware he uses. “I search online for the most random materials, and that’s where I start,” Mr. Borochov said. No studs or plain hoops here; Borochov constructs earrings that resemble blonde hair extensions from a horsetail. In fact, Borochov said he’ll never go mainstream in his designs. The crazier the design, the better.

Need something to spruce up that plain black dress? If you’re in New York or Chicago, you can now choose from his eye-catching necklaces, rings and headdresses. His work has recently caught the eyes of buyers for Patricia Field in New York City and Ikram in Chicago, the first brick-and-mortar locations to sell Mordekai pieces. Don't be surprised when Mordekai's jewelry becomes a conversation starter.

The annual MTV Awards took place last night and the three hottest trends were menswear inspired looks, peplums and sculptural cocktail dresses. Strong Eyebrows

Remember when you were just about at that age when it was time to tweeze your eyebrows for the first time? If you were anything like us, you borrowed your mother’s pair, (if you were lucky, you had your own pair), stood close to a mirror and painstakingly plucked every last stray hair. The result wasn’t anywhere near perfect but you felt grown. Soon, you went through your over plucking stage and then the lazy stage where plucking was a luxury. Well my dear, it’s safe to say to give those tweezers a rest... at least for a bit. Strong, full eyebrows are topping off famous faces all over, from the catwalk to Hollywood. Eyebrows have attracted new attention both in the world of fashion and for the woman on the street. Bold eyebrows are youthful and fresh looking.

Down To A Tee

Sometimes, a girl just needs a cool t-shirt. Worried about looking drab or frumpy? Don’t be. We’re loving the vintage and graphic t-shirts being worn by celebrities. The low-key and casual staple can be dressed up with a skinny pair of printed pants, shorts or long and flowing skirts. Nothing says comfort quite like a t-shirt. Dress up the look à la Ashley Madekwe with pointed pumps and statement earrings, or add a blazer and studded loafers for a pulled-together everyday style that delivers more of a statement.

Madonna Brings Back Her Cone Bra

Madonna Brings Back Her Cone Bra

Last night in Tel Aviv, Madonna’s fans will be saw a little bit of Madonna circa the 1980s. No, she didn’t do her ‘Material Girl’ number, instead Madge sported a redesign of her trademark cone bra, originally designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier. In fact, Madge will be taking her cone-tastic bra on her worldwide MDNA concert tour. While the bra was cone in shape, it went through a makeover for 2012. "We played with the ideas of a suit and a corset. But the corset is now like a cage," Gaultier told Women's Wear Daily. "What I have done this time is a nod to the conical bra corset of the Blond Ambition tour but reinterpreted in 3-D, in patent leather on the outside with metallic leather on the inside." Madonna wore the "cage" bra over a white button-down shirt, a black necktie and black pinstriped pants -- a more grown-up take on her pink bustier with the pinstriped suit from 1990. Truth be told, this iconic bit of pop culture fashion will always be imprinted in our hearts.

Homemade Lip Stain

Homemade Lip Stain

celebrity style

We love a good DIY and this homemade lip stain has us jumping for joy. It's all natural and absolutely berry-licious. For that just bitten look that doesn’t rub off as quickly as a gloss or lipstick, follow these simple steps. There’s only one problem with this procedure. Try not to eat all the berries before you get to making the stain. Once you master the technique, you can make little pots of sunshine for your girlfriends as well.

INGREDIENTS: 3 Blackberries (for their bright berry color), 1 Raspberry (for its feminine pink color), 3 Pomegranate Seeds (for their vibrant red color), 1/2 teaspoon edible oil (I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil), a small Bowl + Spoon (or mortar + pestle if you have them), Fork or Sifter to drain, small 5-gram Pot/Jar with screw top from any craft store

STEP 1: Mash the blackberries and raspberry in the bowl thoroughly with the back of your spoon.
STEP 2: Add the pomegranate juice into the mixture by individually squeezing them between your thumb and index fingers over the bowl.

STEP 3: Pour the olive oil into the bowl and stir everything together with your spoon.

STEP 4: Finish by draining the liquid from the mixture into your small portable jar.

For application, use your fingers, a lip brush or a Q-tip. It’ll only be good for a few days so refrigerate it for longevity. Have fun with it and even try different fruits (acai berries, cherries, etc)! You can play with the ratios of each fruit to customize your desired shade but you’ll get the most color payoff from the blackberries.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America will hold its annual awards ceremony on June 4. No need to imagine the goings on of the night, as it will be broadcast the following day on Style.com. It’s no surprise that Trey Laird has been asked once again to oversee the creative direction for the CFDA journal, which was photographed by Craig McDean. This year’s version titled, “A New York Portfolio,” was shot on site. “We loved the idea of New York City being part of it because there is such excitement about fashion coming out of New York. And New York plays such a big part in all of these people’s lives,” Laird said. We all love New York.
