The 28th Annual NYC AIDS Walk
NewYorkDress was very excited to be part of the 2013 28th Annual NYC
AIDS Walk! We joined approximately 30,000 people in Central Park this
past week to brave the rain for a great cause. Walkers from across the
country gathered in teams and were led through Central Park and the
Upper West Side for a six-mile walk honoring those living with AIDS and
commemorating those whose lives were lost to it. Although rain continued
to pour, it did not dampen our spirits. We were honored to be part of
such an important walk, which aims to bring awareness and treatment to
a worldwide epidemic. The 5.5 million dollars raised this year will be
used to provide shelter, medical attention and support to all those
afflicted with HIV/AIDS.

Bella Thorne's Quinceañera
I attended Bella Thorne's Quinceañera and had the honor of being fitted by New York Dress. There are so many beautiful dresses to choose from at New York Dress, so I started looking by looking at all the categories for different occasions. In the end, I narrowed my designer search down to two dresses selections for my wish list. After some thinking, I knew that La Femme 17649, cocktail dress was my favorite choice for this special occasion. I love to dance and twirl and I knew there would be dancing at Bella's party so this dress was a really easy choice. I loved the way the La Femme dress flowed. The color is an unusually beautiful light lime with silver sequins on the bodice and a sweetheart neckline. It also has silver sequin straps fitting diagonally across the back which complimented my back and shoulders. The overall look of this fabulous baby doll dress was age appropriate for me since I am 14. I had the most amazing time choosing my accessories too. I chose to wear a beautiful pair of silver dangle earrings to match the glitzy bodice, a set of silver rings and a silver clutch. I chose a french manicure (clear coat) with Rimmel London French White Tip Pro on all fingers and toes and topped it off with silver glitter (Nicole by OPI Scandal Secrets and Sparkle) on my ring finger to match the silver sequin embellishment on the dress. I chose to keep my hair casual and loose as I wanted my overall style to be simple and elegant for Bella's event. My friends said the look was simply stunning.
Thank you New York Dress!

Savannah's Manicure Tips
The next dress I chose was the adorable Tarik Ediz 90282, ($354). It features a mini, ruffled A-line skirt with an elegant Satin bow that showcases the waist line .
I chose to use a fall earth tone (taupe polish) OPI Over The Taupe as the base coat. I chose Milani Black Nail Art (black) to draw the outline of the Button and Bow designs on each finger nail. After designing each Bow outline using black nail art, I chose Rimmel London French White Tip Pro (white) as a filler to paint the inside color of each bow. Once dried, I topped each bow by using the pointed tip of the Milani Black Nail Polish Art brush (black) to draw dots as buttons for each.
For a completely unique look, I drew a bow on my thumb nail that was different from my other nails. I chose Rimmel London French White Tip Pro (white) for the Thumb design. I think this dress is super adorable and the cute little bow nail art compliment the dress perfectly!

Savannah's Manicure Picks
I chose
Alexia Admor D1314FS, ($215)- a beautiful black slip dress that's perfect for any occasion. I love the flowing silhouette and the sparkly embellishment throughout. I chose a reverse black and white French Manicure for this dress. The reverse black and white French Manicure is very daring and pretty, yet unexpected. I used OPI Black Onyx as the base coat and Rimmel London French White Tip Pro for the white tips. I chose a bold color for my second manicure choice. This deep color is perfect for the holidays. I began with a clear top coat and two coats of OPI Nail Lacquer Bogata Blackberry (blackberry), followed by a clear top coat. The results are simply amazing!

Savannah's Homecoming Mani 101
This gorgeous, elegant princess type dress is
Terani P684, ($318). My first choice was a light pink french manicure. I also chose to incorporate the pattern of the dress bodice on the ring finger. The second manicure has the bodice pattern on all of my nails.
How To
1. I coated my nails using OPI Nail Laquer in It's A Girl color which gives a very light pink appearance to match the dress.
2. For the French manicure tips i used Rimmel London French White Tip Pro Nail Polish.
3. For the ring finger I used OPI Nail Lacquer in Over The Taupe for the base coat and for the tips I used OPI Nail Laquer in Warm & Fozzie (shimmery golden brown color).
4. For the ring finger nail pattern I used Rimmel London White Tip Pro nail polish and Milani Nail Art in black.
*For the second look, follow steps 1,3 & 4. Have fun!

Savannah Lathem, actress
I absolutely love this dress. Blue is my favorite color and this strapless cocktail dress La Femme 17683, ($450) is so striking and beautiful.
Look 1:
The nail polish I chose to match is a Tiffany blue color inspired by Tiffany & Co nail polish. I used two base coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple (aqua) & for the designs I used Rimmel London French White Tip Pro (white).
Look 2: I wanted to change up the first look for the second nail polish choice so I accentuated the sparkly details of the bodice and added Nicole by OPI Scandal Secrets & Sparkle, (silver sparkles) to give it that vibrant, youthful look.

There are so many great things happening just around the corner like Homecoming, Halloween events, Thanksgiving and Christmas! New York Dress and I selected several beautiful dresses to discuss trendy, fashionable examples of nail polish styles and nail art designs for teens that give that daring, spectacular, stunning look for any occasion.
You can have fun at home using different nail polishes and nail art to create one of a kind manicures that bring out the glamour in your New York Dress.
Are you ready? Lets get started!
This glowing, white
Jovani 5406, ($340) is mesmerizing! I chose two different nail polish choices for this look. The first one I used was OPI Alpine Snow coat (white) applied evenly on nails except the ring finger. For the ring finger I chose to use OPI Gone Gonzo which has a baby blue color mix with glitter . I wanted to keep the look stunning. For the second choice I used two coats of Gone Gonzo (baby blue color mix with glitter) on all of my fingers nails. I feel like this look adds a pop of color giving the Jovani 5406 a totally daring, edgy look.

Homecoming Trends
Homecoming is the first official bash of the school year and we couldn't think of a better excuse to dress up. We're featuring Homecoming trends for the 2012, we know you'll absolutely love. This Homecoming, step out of your comfort zone and into something fabulous.
(From left to right)
Sheer panels have been spotted on runways and red carpets the world over. Show a hint of skin in a mini dress with sheer insets, like
Boutique Claire, ($189).
Another huge trend that hit the red carpets this past year were two piece dresses that reveal a hint of skin. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Frieda Pinto sported this trend. We love Jovani 6968, ($550)
Stand out in the crowd at your Homecoming in a sparkly mini dress. Drape yourself in a gorgeously sequined or beaded dress that'll liven up your night. Why not choose a bold sequin dress like
Atria 8052, ($198)
(From left to right)
Show off your curves in a figure flattering body conscious dress. This silhouette rose to fame when designer Herve Leger created the bandage dress. Slip into Clarisse 2038, ($438)
Slip into a mini dress with sleeves this Homecoming. We love feminine accents like lace and sheer insets on sleeves. Fall in love with
Sticks and Stones 9185, ($278)
Show off your fabulous legs with a shorter hem. We love the contrast between the flowing bodice and fitted sequin mini skirt in

Casie and the Sequins
The day we shot this sequin mini dress, we kept bumping into street art and instead of looking the other way, we incorporated the city's artsy corners into our shoot. The final verdict, of course, was that we loved Casie's Boutique Ginger mini more than any piece of art we saw on the walls. We didn't have to do much for this shoot-Casie wore her blonde locks naturally, with natural makeup and a pair of crystal embellished ankle strap stilettos, (Tony Bowls Jenny). This dress features a sheer decolletage which follows in the footsteps of the illusion trend. The body conscious bodice is completely covered in multicolored sequins, making it one seriously sparkly mini party dress.

Body Conscious
The little black dress was officially revamped on our last street style shoot. Our model Casie chose this body conscious mini dress by Sticks and Stones. Following the rising popularity of body-con dresses, Casie wore
Sticks and Stones 9185, ($278) around the East Village, loving the little details like the diamond shaped back cut out, ruffled neckline and sheer lace sleeves. This mini dress taps in on two of this season's continuous trends: lace and he ever popular body conscious fit.

Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2013 runway collection was filled with beautiful pinks, lavenders and yellows, laser cut fabric and gorgeous silhouettes like this beautiful fuchsia mini dress with an embellished waistband. Black and Blue
Two of this Fall's upcoming color trends are black and blue-think a mash up of royal blues, peacock, ocean and cerulean blues. This cool and mysterious color combination is perfect for day or night and was showcased by designers including Preen, DKNY and Carolina Herrera during NYFW 12'. We love the idea of a dark cat eye and red lip against these cool colors. Tadashi's latest collection includes many styles featuring these beautiful colors.

The most beloved fashion season is fast approaching and we are ready. Givenchy's Fall/Winter Haute Couture 2012 collection inspired us with mixed textiles and embellishments in muted rich tones. From Tory Burch to Oscar De La Renta and Marchesa, we saw flashes of rich embellishments, such as sequins, lace and vintage inspired pieces. With varying necklines and lengths, our fall favorites can be easily paired with the seasons essentials: tights, boots and costume jewelry. Take a look at some of our picks for the fall.

One of the designers we shot during last week's wedding shoot, was Shail K. We couldn't help but fall in love with the sultry, beautiful collection. Slip a dress on and let the sparks fly. Her amazing sequined styles shine in unexpected colors that wrap around stunning silhouettes, reminiscent of Alice and Olivia's embellished sheaths. One of our favorite styles is

Maxi dresses and miniskirts have always been in style. Mixing each style is fun and creative, but what if you could get the best of both worlds? Good news ladies, because you can! High-low skirts and dresses are a big ‘yes’ in fashion right now. It combines the look of elegance and modesty with chic and sexy without the mess or hassle!
It is also a great style for formal attire.

Behind The Scenes:Summer Shoot
The details of the hair and makeup are just as important as the dress. Amanda, one of the models, was sitting and texting patiently while the makeup artists and hair designers were working their magic.
An ordinary room was transformed into a beautiful, vintage setting used to highlight the beauty of the dress and the model in it during the photo shoot.
The photographer and model admire the product of both of their hard work.
Amanda and Joanna, the two models, pose casually together. In between photo shoots, they critique each other’s modeling to create better photos for our website!
Patience was the key during the photo shoot. Not only did the models have to stand still while being made up, but the makeup artist and the hair designer had to pay close attention to every detail so the final pieces would be perfect.

Pop Of Pink
When our very own customer service representative and style maven Melody wore these around our offices the other day, our eyes widened. These neon pink patent leather heels were a little bit of heaven, (not to mention her gold ankle bracelet she's had since she was a child). We officially have neon fever!

Drop Waist Dresses
The twenties were all over the runways this past Spring and made making appearances in films such as The Artist and The Great Gatsby. We're here to say that drop waist dresses can absolutely be worn without fear of being a little too 'Downtown Abbey.' One thing we love about the drop waist dress is how flattering it is. The bodice is billowy and falls away from the torso and the lower waist elongates the body. Our entire Tadashi Collection
features some of the most beautiful twenties inspired drop waist dresses. The fact that Jazz Age fashion is popping up amidst the neon minis, studded everything and high-low dresses, is quite refreshing. The twenties are clearly never going away.

| Top Knot Trend |
|
|
Summer Do: Top Knot
There aren’t many looks from your childhood that you can still pull off in your adulthood. Fortunately, the chic top knot looks great at any age. So simple and so effortless; the top knot will keep the nape of your neck hair free and have you feeling fresh during the sweltering summer days. The great thing about the top knot. It looks stylish both when it's messy and sleek and can be worn from morning to evening. Top knots tend to work best with second day hair, so you can make the best of your blow out with a top knot on the second day.

Lauren’s Eye-Openers
Today’s eye-opener segment comes to us from our bridesmaid specialist, Lauren. A little fresh foreign air, glamour and animal print makes Kilbane one happy woman. We’re on board with that!
Glamorous women inspire me: Liz Taylor, Mae West and Jackie O are just 3 women who come to mind. Be it tons of jewels and bling , fur (faux of course) or simply a pair of big sunglasses whenever I put on any of these pieces I instantly feel glamorous!
I love to travel one of my favorite places I have been to has been the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I’m a beach girl at heart, so give me the beach and a breathtaking view that almost seems unreal and I’m in heaven. Any time I think about my trip I always makes me want to get out and see the rest of the world.
I’m a sucker for a Leopard print! Dresses, shoes, scarfs bags and anything I can get my hands on. It’s my go to print whenever I want to add that extra Pop to any of my outfits!

| Makeda's Eye-Openers |
|
|
Makeda’s Eye-Openers
Today’s eye-opener comes to us from the ever so fashionable Makeda. All she needs in her life is a little Angelina Jolie and a lot of music.
I have been obsessed with this woman since 1995, basically since I was five and I'm 21 years old now.
She is one of the most inspiring individuals in my life besides my mother and grandmother.
From her less than enticing life style to being one of the most desirable
women of the 21st century. I had the pleasure to watch her evolve throughout the years. She is beautiful and smart and has inspired me to become a U.N
ambassador in my later life and has taught me that it was okay to be who I am without whispering these words in my ear. I get really excited when I hear her name and see her face, sort of like when a shopaholic hears about a sample sale.
When I'm not glued to my partial cubicle, 9 times out of 10 I have headphones in my ear.
Music has been a way for me to run into the wild, jump off a cliff, and dive into a pool fileld with flowers. Basically, live in my own little world. ^_^
I love how it evokes emotions that I never knew existed.
For every moment that I have encountered, music has always been by my side.
My besftriend and my worst enemy. My Lover and and the food for my soul.
I could not exist if music was never around.
"The eye is the window of the soul, the mouth the door. The intellect, the will, are seen in the eye; the emotions, sensibilities, and affections, in the mouth. The animals look for man's intentions right into his eyes. Even a rat, when you hunt him and bring him to bay, looks you in the eye. Hiram Powers, American sculptor (1805 - 1873)"
When I look at myself in the mirror I like to see everything that I can improve about Makeda. To constantly grow and expand beyond borders that I fantasize about jumping.
I sort of have a weird fascination with snakes. I enjoy the fact that they can shed their skin.
To me it is a phase of rebirth and every night before I go to sleep I look at myself to try and find my soul (Yes, I accepted the fact that I'm "weird" and I embrace it.com.) Sometimes I just feel like I exist and when I have the opportunity to see myself I try to see what other people see. I try to find myself by looking at myself, which is questionable.
It is another reason why I cannot look at people in there eyes for more than three seconds because I feel like there trying to take my soul. LOL not kidding.

|
|
Saturday Do: Do Something That Scares You
Saturday Do:
You dream and you dream but when the moment comes to actually “doing,” you become scared; tip-toeing back into your zone of comfort. This Saturday’s Do is a bit different. Do something that scares you.
Try a new food

Perhaps you’ve always wanted to live in a new city, planning it down to the spots you’ll frequent in that new city. Maybe you’ve always wanted to immerse yourself in a new hobby or maybe you’ve been (im)patiently waiting and hoping for love to come your way. It’s time to take a leap for yourself. When that moment arrives, a physical and emotional elevation occurs and all of a sudden you can’t breathe.
Write a letter to a ‘long lost’ someone

So move to that new city, publish that book, write that letter, try a new food. On a regular basis, do the things that scare you. On the other side of that scary moment, you’ll find a fulfilling life.
Make that move

Eye-Opener: Danielle Butzon
Today’s eye-opener segment comes from our very own, Danielle Butzon. Her favorite part of the day? Seeing the gorgeous New York City skyline, of course.
NYC Skyline
When I come into the city every morning, seeing the sun rise over the NYC skyline inspires me. Even though it is the smallest part of my day, it's my favorite and it lets me know my day will be good.
Lenka
Lenka is an Australian singer/songwriter. It wasn't until recently that I discovered her music and realized she writes a lot like me. I am an aspiring singer/songwriter as well and Lenka inspires me to express how I am feeling through my music.
Love
Everything about love inspires me. From the first time you meet a person, to the butterflies you get , all the way to the heart wrenching break ups. That is where most of my inspiration comes from when I write. I feel like love is a crucial part of life and without it, life would be boring and meaningless.

Lillian Bassman Exhibit

Photography legend Lillian Bassman, who passed away this past February at the age of 94 once said, "the same techniques in Photoshop as I did in the darkroom," dismisses both romantic notions of film's purity and digital fantasies of amazingly-manipulated images. One look at her black and white photography and you’re absolutely hooked. The former Harper's Bazaar art director explained the shift in her career as a simple tool upgrade, "the palette has changed, the end result is the same."

Bassman’s work will be on exhibit throughout May 26th at the Staley-Wise Gallery. The exhibit–featuring experimental reprints of her early work from the 1940s–is based on the late photographer’s book, Lillian Bassman: Lingerie.

Q:How do you want girls to feel when they are wearing a Jasz Couture dress?

Today, it’s Betty Dominguez’s turn to tell us what moves and inspires her. We hope these picks get you thinking about what inspires you.
The 1950's- I am really inspired by the fashion sense of the 50's, and the alluring effect of Marilyn Monroe.
I try to incorporate these styles into my every day wear, and home decor. I love the cat shaped glasses, vintage Chanel bags and Bold Red lips. Which brings me to my inspiration.
Lipstick-I love Bright Bold colors!! All my other make up is minimal, a bright hue brightens my day, my mood and makes me feel awake! My favorite is a a Lavender Tint, I usually wear it around the office.
Modern Pop Art-I love Kaws, and Pop Art in general. My style is a mixture with pieces that are vintage twisted with modern day wear and art!. It describes my perosnality, a little reserve and classy, but living in a modern day fashion world.

Eye Openers
Our very own Debra Edwards, who looks stunning in red lipstick, gave us her list of inspirational things. Jem and the Holograms? Yes, please!
Yves Saint Laurent
I look at this picture and see creativity and innovation of the late Yves Saint Laurent. He pushed the envelope of what women were supposed to wear and made fashion that much more fun and interesting. Hello female tuxedo suit and giant bow dress! Setting trends in every way he was also the first designer responsible for putting ethnic models in his runway shows, which as a little girl in Jamaica inspired me to be anything I wanted to be. He is without a doubt a motivation to be a fearless fashion representative on a daily basis.
Jem Jam
Jem was my favorite cartoon as a child. She and The Holograms were unlike anything I had ever seen before. They had that certain je ne sais quoi, but moreover were proof that it was perfectly ok to experiment with fashion, mixing textures and colors to create your own signature style and make statement through magnificent eye-catching ensembles. Jem also inspired leadership qualities and girl power receptivity that has stuck with me to this day.
Dapper diner party
Yes I love to eat ;) That being said, however, a picture of this nature conjures up more than just food and rather evokes a bigger and much more meaningful experience that takes careful thought to execute, and brings friends and family together. The décor just like the clothes we wear is at the center of it all, the bold printed tablecloths are the canvases on which the whole experience is built around. Candles and goblets add a pop of color to the décor which is complemented by stunning floral decorations only to be perfected by the beautiful settings. Similarly with clothing I like to use certain statement pieces and build stunning outfits around them.

Eye-openers
Our very own Tiana Wright let us in on her eye-openers; things that inspire and move her. Take note, ladies.
Fashion Editorials: Softness
I love the fantasy factor of fashion editorials. There’s so much creativity making me want to jump right into the shot and be in the midst of it all. Its turn of the century style and the calmness of this photo inspires the more subtle side to my wardrobe. I look at this and just want to lie in a field of flowers, have a picnic, and simply be fabulous.
Bold:
This photo is a visual manual on looking great and being noticed. Bold Prints, bright colors, trendy silhouette, and terrific heels. It has everything I want at the moment from more prints in my closet to ombre hair. I’m obsessed with the peplums, and the high low skirt. This photo inspires me to take fashion risks and reminds me that bold can be way better!
Fashion Shows: Creative
I’m a creative person so I’m triggered by visuals. Fashion shows are styled so differently that it always makes me think about how I can interpret what I’ve seen on the runway to the sidewalk. The production of the shows are usually so grand, I feel like I’m in another world. The whole thing becomes such a fantasy I make it my mission to capture that feeling in my every day outfits.

Saturday Do: Dressed for Art
When we discovered that Jean-Phillipe Delhome’s “Dressed for Art,” was coming to a close this Saturday, we were a bit saddened, but it inspired this week's Saturday Do. If you haven’t already visited the FIAF Gallery to peep this collection of colorful fashion drawings and paintings, make a date to do so! Delhomme is regarded as one of the most delightful satirists in fashion. The multi-talented painter, writer, cultural blogger, and fashion illustrator, has been featured in renowned magazines such as Vogue, W, Vanity Fair, GQ, and The New Yorker. In this exhibition, he explores the relationship between fashion, contemporary art, and design and how they influence today’s pop culture.

Spring Inspiration Board
Our stylist Jonah designed this beauty inspiration board for our upcoming spring cover shoot this morning. Part of the fun about working alongside Jonah is his endless vision.
“I love the easy glamour and timeless sex appeal of these muses. The muses (Sharon Tate, Sophia Loren, Bridget Bardot, and Verna Lisi) embody an effortlessness in their beauty that I really love. They aren't trying to be sexy, it's innate. I mixed in modern fashion images that fit the aesthetic. I am imagining a Mad Hatter-esque pastel picnic, which is why I chose the teacups and silverware. I want the shoot to personify spring which is why I chose pastels, and added the outside element in the corner.”

Find of the day: Underwater Inks
We are such lovers that we find it hard to discriminate against any color. We'll wear white whenever we feel like it and red on “off seasons”. So when we heard that avocado green and pistachio were one of Spring’s “it” colors, we ran with it. A recent discovery made us want to drape ourselves in green from head to toe. This series of underwater inks titled, “A due Colori,” by Italian artist Alberto Sereso made us appreciate color even more, especially when it takes on a galactic inspired life of its own.

Saturday Do: ‘Youthquake’ at FIT
In big cities like New York, the weekends are absolutely priceless. They are, without a doubt, a time of recuperation, brunch hopping, errand running, shopping, cleaning and the careless schlepping around town. So it’s was a no brainer that we’d start a ‘Saturday Do’ series, letting you know what you should and could do in the city, if you are so inclined and have a spare half hour or so. Time is gold and we’ve picked things we want to check out ourselves to share with you. This week’s pick: ‘Youthquake’ exhibition at FIT. The exhibition celebrates 60s Mod and chronicles the impact of the youth culture during the 1960s, highlighting Twiggy and the hippie movement. This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is the last day to peep the fashion exhibit, curated by FIT students, so don’t miss out!

|
Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada
If you see one fashion exhibition this year, make sure it’s Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This stellar exhibition will be the focus of the upcoming Spring 2012 Costume Institute Exhibition taking place on May 7th. The actual exhibit will open to the public on May 10th and run through August 19th. The exhibition will explore the stark contrasts between both Italian designers from completely different eras.
The exhibition will feature 90 designs and 30 accessories by Schiaparelli who worked in Paris during the 1920s and by Miuccia Prada from the late 80s to present day. Schiaparelli’s most iconic pieces are the ‘Tear’ necklace, ‘Bug’ necklace and ‘Shoe’ hat, all of which were created during the Surrealist movement. Prada’s designs focus on fashion that is more reflective on Postmodernism. Her below-the-waist focus is symbolic of modernity and femininity. Either way, both women are fashion royalty and we agree that this exhibition merits a visit or two from every fashionista.

700 Spools of Thread: Keep it Together
In New York City, there’s a surprise in every corner. Yesterday during lunch, we discovered this performance art piece at Chashama, in the Garment District. The piece, by artist L. Mylott Manning, involves the transformation of the front window of the gallery space into a jungle of endless thread and fabric. The piece centers around a woman entwined in hundreds of tiny spools of thread. We highly recommend peeping this. The performance will run through April 8 at 7 p.m. An artist reception is happening today from 6-8 p.m.

| NYD's exclusive Interview with Scala |
|

NYD's exclusive interview with Scala about the Ashley Lauren collection

NYD: Can you tell us a little bit about Scala and the new Ashley Lauren collection?
SCALA: SCALA by ASHLEY lauren is designed with special attention to every last detail, to accentuate and caress every curve and contour of a woman's body. Using the latest in materials for superior construction, we pride ourselves in providing our customers the look and feel that brings out the very essence of their beauty.
NYD: What made you want to start designing?
SCALA: It was never easy for me to find a dress that was classic and sexy at the same time. Also, I love bling, so to find all three qualities in one dress was even more difficult. That is why I created the line!
NYD: Where do you find inspiration for your design aesthetic?
SCALA: I wanted to create a line that is young, beautiful and playful, yet still affordable. This collection is about creating a sensuous experience and distinctive look and fit that bring a higher level of poise and confidence to a woman, wherever she wears it. We love soft, sexy ruffles and dresses that complement a woman's curves, and of course we love the bling!
NYD: What are some of your favorite pieces from your new collection?
SCALA: I am loving SA1043. I recently wore it to a fashion event and received so many compliments. SA4004 is sure to get you photographed and SA4007 is great to have in your closet because of its versatility!
NYD: What do you think women look for in an evening dress?
SCALA: Well, for me it is about fit and construction. I like it when the dress stays up. A good corset is essential for that, so I put extra attention into the construction of the garment and the details of the built-in inner corset. My goal was to give my customer a couture fit and look at an affordable price.
NYD: You mentioned that you travel a lot, do you think that traveling affects your view of your customer?
SCALA: Thanks to my travels, I have come to understand how important it is to have clothing that is universal and can be worn more than once. It is fun to be trendy, but it is smart to be classic. SCALA by ASHLEYlauren fits into any culture and can be worn by any age.
NYD: What trends are you embracing this season?
SCALA: For me it wasn't about the trend so much as it was about making a dress that makes a woman feel like she can take the world on when she’s wearing it. We used lots of sequins and beading, which is trendy now, but we used them with classic silhouettes so these dresses can be worn beyond "this season".
NYD: Can you give us the insider's dish about any up-and-coming collections? (Silhouettes, embellishments, fabrics, colors, etc.)
SCALA: We have been working on the new collection...I will stay true to making dresses that make a woman feel like she can take on the world. But that is all I am saying now!

| Styling the Harrison Morgan Photoshoot |
|
|

We recently started carrying a great line of shrugs by Harrison Morgan. When it came to styling these pieces for our photo-shoot last week, we 'shrugged' =). As always, our stylist Jonah came to the rescue. "We need a dress that will complement these shrugs, without overpowering their appeal. We need a dress that is chic, elegant, timeless and above all else, simple", he explained.
He walked straight over to our Alfred Sung collection and pulled out a gorgeous, vibrant dandelion colored, vintage inspired dress. "No", he said, reassuring us that "she will not look like a bumblebee" (his convictions are strong). Of course, he was right and both looked fantastic on our model Nashly.
The styling was not finished here. Now it was time to think jewelry, hair and makeup. Jonah reminded us of this by pairing the dress and shrug with simple rhinestone hoop earrings and a cluster ring. He stayed away from bracelets to avoid taking attention away from the sleeves. "No necklaces" he said. "They will detract from the interesting neckline". The makeup was kept simple: light foundation, eye liner, lip gloss and mascara. Nashlly's hair was then pulled up and teased it a bit to create a 50's inspired full pony. "Fabulous!" is the word that came to mind when we saw the completed look.
As with every shoot we do together, we made sure to take one shot that captured Nashlly and Jonah having fun and showing off their great personalities (see below).

"My sister had shopped with NewYorkDress.com in the past and suggested I find a dress for our friend's party there. I'm always skeptical about buying online, but I went for it anyway because she is like "the" fashion shopping queen. I was amazed at the variety on the site and my heart stopped when I saw the baby blue Tony Bowls dress. I had to have it :-) It's so my style!! When I opened the box and saw the Golden Ticket I almost tossed it aside thinking it was some kind of promotion. Luckily, I thought twice and realized I had won the dress! I took a chance buying online and I was rewarded which feels great! My sister and I are so excited! Thank you so much! ”

"I got an email a couple days after
ordering my dress saying that my dress had a golden ticket in it and I was
super confused. I honestly thought it was a spam email and almost didn't open
it! My parents still thought it wasn't true until I cashed the check from you
guys (but they're crazy ;)) I get to wear my dress in April for my
junior prom. The tradition at my school is that only juniors get to wear big
ball gowns for prom, and to me, all of the girls wear practically the same
dress, just in different colors. Its a big deal to have one that stands out and
looks great, so I chose this one. I wanted something unique, traditional yet
modern. I wanted something that I
couldn't get at one of the four dress shops in Central Wisconsin. I liked that
the dress has an almost vintage look and is very classy. I love the detailing on the bust. I'll shoot
you guys and email of my actually wearing it for prom in April :) again thanks
for everything!”

| Exclusive Behind the Scenes Look at Prom Registry 2012 Video! |
|
|

 Monday January 27th, 2012
I'm here in the NYD studio looking over the dresses, accessories, and make-up from last night’s video shoot. We shot on Wall St, in Manhattan and finished around 1:00 am. Celebratory cocktails were of course in order. Now, as I place red lipstick back into Nashlly's (model) make-up case, it reminds me of the sultry vixen character she played, as well as the mark it left on her glass.
There were two main characters for this shoot. My styling choices were (as they always should be) meant to enhance the characters of our story. For this concept I chose super glam, nude dresses, with a ton of embellishments (BG Haute E01017). I wanted the accessories to compliment the looks and not detract from the beauty of the dresses.
When I created the story for look one, I was thinking of a girl who loves big bold statement pieces. I started the story with this amazing pop of color, the bright coral bag. Knowing that the dress itself is a statement, I decided to keep the rest of the jewelry and the shoes monotone, with clear stones, just for sparkle.

LOOK ONE - Bag: Jessica McClintock VA5097A (Coral), Earrings: WF Collection 291 (Silver), Bracelet: Jason J1200 (Gold), Shoes: Allure "Shimmer" (Gold) // LOOK TWO - Earrings: Jason KKE099 (Multi), Bracelet: Jason DB1269 (Multi), Bangle: WF Collection CT115 (Fuschia), Shoes: Alisha Hill S1145
I approached the second story from the opposite point of view, by getting the pop color from jewelry. The shoes continue the nude feel but shine in multiple iridescent colors, from there I went on to choose jewel tone chandeliers, a delicate colorful bracelet, and a statement bangle that really catches your eye, but doesn't distract. Keeping the clutch simple let the colorful jewelry take center stage, spicing up the look without making too daring a choice.
I'm already preparing for tomorrow's exclusive studio shoot and I can't wait to give you another look from behind the scenes. Stay tuned!

And be sure to tell us what you think in the comments!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
In the pink parade: Making Strides walk draws thousands for breast cancer awareness and among them is NewYorkDress.com.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society's premier event to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. More than just the name of a walk, it describes the amazing progress we're making together to defeat this disease. This was our opportunity to join our community to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and to support programs to help us reach a day when no one will have to hear the words "You have breast cancer". This day brought together people from all walks of life and reminded us how great it feels to be a part of something positive. NewYorkDress.com was not just a part of a walk or celebration, NewyorkDress.com was part of a movement.
NewYorkDress.com's inventory manager (Queen of laughter), Brenda walked with her children. Ordering supervisor (Sassy Stylist), Karen walked with her family, proudly sporting matching pink t-shirts. And, our accountant (the fashionista), Afra walked in her pink wig!.
Among the supporters was the Italian luxury fashion house of Fendi
Survivors celebrating life and children dancing for the cause.
Even the dogs dressed up in support. Check out her pink eye lashes!
Line of people singing 'New York, Yew York'!

| We just shot Julian Joyce by Mandalay! |
|
|

Vava Voom!
We always expect curvy things from Mandalay, but the latest Julian Joyce dresses have us caught between ooh la la and va va voom! From intricately hand-worked embellishments that include lace, floral applique, crystals, and beading to luscious stretch-satin, our inner-most desires for luxury have been sated.
JULIAN JOYCE HOTLIST
CURVY
SHIMMERY
REFIND
SEXY!
Looks like we're not the only ones excited about these dresses, as usual, Kim Kardashian's already hip to this label and it's curve-enhancing power. But we have other fashion-appetites too, and Julian Joyce by Mandalay more than delivers. Staying true to their classic, feminine shapes, the label also offers the right touch of exotic to glam up a classic look. Take a look at the swishy hemline, a chic way to add a touch of movement to a curve-hugging piece. And the way those crystals drape so delicately down the neckline? Simply gorgeous. In neutral or classic black, you'll also be on-trend in all seasons.
Special thanks to our amazing model Nashly. This shoot was amazing not only due to the beautiful product, but also because we were able to work with such a talented and wonderful spirited model. See more of our photos newyorkdress.tumblr.com

| Dress and Tell Winner, Sept. 2011 |
|
|

Check out New York Dress's September winner for "Dress and Tell"!
Shelby wore style 81306H , in white, by Mac Duggal. She wore the gown to compete in the American Coed Pageant as well as National American Miss pageant over this past summer. Shelby received numerous compliments on it and won Best Dress at the State Pageant! Since the bodice was jeweled, she didn't want to take away from it so she paired it up with simple diamond earrings. She wore satin 4" heels that matched the material at the bottom of the gown. She chose this dress because it was simple, yet elegant. The dress really sparkled on stage.
Be sure to upload a photo of you in your NewYorkDress.com dress
and be entered to win $200 off your next purchase!

| We Love Our Customers |
|
|
It's Valentine's Day, and we must confess year after year we grow a lil' sweeter on some very important people: our customers. The cupcakes pictured below were the result of a very long journey involving searching, but not finding, the perfect dress for a very special occasion.

Suriah was helping a very special customer, K, who was in need of a dress in a hurry to celebrate her 25th birthday, just two days away! She placed her order for a dress on a Thursday for next day air. She was expecting the dress on Friday and traveling to Atlantic City that evening. But Friday morning came, and the dress did not ship from the designer. Suriah called her immediately with the bad news and asked K if she'd like to come into the office to try on a few dresses in her size. K agreed, came to the office, but didn't find a dress that she liked.
Suriah decided to see if the designer could ship K's original dress pick to her hotel in Atlantic City. The designer was able to fulfill this request, and K was ecstatic. She'd be able to wear the dress she wanted to celebrate her big day.
This was almost a perfect story, but when K's dress arrived at her hotel, it was too big for her. She had a backup dress and was still able to celebrate her birthday in style. K stopped by our office on Tuesday on her return trip to drop off her dress. And even though things didn't work out perfectly, she was very happy with the service she received from the NewYorkDress.com team. She brought in cupcakes to say thank you. It's one of the sweetest, nicest gestures and it still has us blushing.
Thank you, K! And Happy Valentine's Day to all of our customers. We hope it's extra special this year.

| Dress & Tell Winner January 2011 |
|
|
January 2011 proved to be a very glamorous month for Dress & Tell! Stylish entrants keep making their way to our inbox, and we just love all your pictures. This month's winner is Johanna. Doesn't she look amazing?
Johanna's wearing a gorgeous Terani gown with a beaded butterfly design that'll bring a springtime mood to any occasion. The cutout bodice is thrilling and sexy, while the billowy chiffon flutters and drapes in the most graceful way. We're dying to know where she wears this dress, and we think it'd fit right in on a cruise along the Mexican Riviera.
When we wrote to Johanna and told her that she won, this is what she had to say:
"I am an actress and an image consultant, ilovemyimage.com, and I recommend to all my clients to get their dresses at NewYorkDress.com."
Awww... Thanks for your submission, Johanna, and enjoy your store credit. And don't forget, everyone, keep your Dress & Tell entries coming! |

| Jovani Top Model Finalists & Winner |
|
|
On Friday night, we invited all the Jovani model search finalists to our office for a party, so we could announce the winner from our boutique. One of these beautiful girls was going to discover that she would move on to the next round of the competition.
The evening began with a little mixing and mingling, and moms and dads waited patiently for the news, too.
Then, we had all the girls put on Jovani gowns and show off their smiles.
We took some individual glamour shots.
Things got a little bouncy...
Flirty...
Billowy...
Statuesque...
And poised.
We announced our winner, and she accepted with open arms!
Congratulations, Emily, and best of luck in the next rounds of the competition from all of us at NewYorkDress.com. Thanks again to all of the contestants that participated. To see more photos from the party, check out the album on Facebook, and shop for the dresses the finalists are wearing in the Jovani section of our site. |

| Jovani Top Model Photo Shoot |
|
|
| What a fabulous day! Several lovely contestants in the 2010 Jovani Top Model Search competition stopped by our office for their photo shoot on Friday, November 26, 2010. Each one of the contestants had their makeup done by a professional makeup artist to get ready for the camera.

After they got the perfect look, they headed for the dress rack for their best color and fit match in one of our Jovani gowns.
Each girl took a turn in front of the camera showing off her best poses, smiles, and charm.
And even our very own Ryan took his turn posing and turning up the heat in front of the big lights.
We had so much fun meeting the contestants and getting them all dressed up to shine. We want to thank everyone for their participation. With so many beautiful girls and great photos, choosing just ten finalists for the second stage of the competition is going to be tough. Best of luck to all! |

|
|
At New York Dress, we are always trying to find new ways to improve our customers shopping experience. We love helping you find that perfect, extra-special dress that’s just going to make you look fabulous—and we know finding THAT dress isn’t always easy, especially if it’s a bridesmaid dress.
That’s where Jessica comes in. She’s our team’s Bridesmaid Specialist and is ready to help you find the right dress or dresses you need to make the day extra special. Bridesmaid dresses are a little different than special occasions dresses, cocktail dresses, or party dresses, although the bridesmaid dress has to fulfill all three of those functions in just one dress. Styles are always changing, too, and the style of the wedding dictates just what dress is appropriate. It’s a lot to think about, we know, and that’s why we wanted to give you a resource to help you find the right dress and have fun while you’re shopping for it.
Jessica really gets weddings. She’s up on all the latest trends in the bridesmaid world and can tell you what hemlines, styles, and silhouettes are all the rage on the wedding runway. She’s up to date on the styles we carry at NewYorkDress.com and can direct you to just that right shade of purple or blue or pink you’re looking for in various styles and collections.
So if you find yourself amidst a bridesmaid dress crisis, give Jessica a call at 1 (212) 594-3600 and let her help you find a gorgeous, perfect-fit solution.

Any customer who has purchased a dress from NewYorkDress.com is eligible to enter. Customers have 60 days from when they receive their dress to enter, so if you’ve preordered or special ordered a gown, you won’t have to rush to get your entry in. It’s easy to enter. All you have to do is submit a photo of yourself in your recent NewYorkDress.com purchase. You’ll have to include the order number with your entry, so make sure to hold onto your order confirmation email. You can use the online entry form or submit your photos via mail to:
NewYorkDress.com Atten: Dress & Tell 232 W. 37th Street Manhattan, NY 10018
Every month, we’ll randomly select one entrant to receive a $200 credit towards her next purchase at NewYorkDress.com. Winners will be notified via email. Will it be you? There is no limit to the amount of entries any one person can have, but all entries must have a valid order number. Every dress counts, too, so if your last order contained three dresses, you can submit an entry for every dress.
We think our customers at NewYorkDress.com are super fabulous, so another big part of Dress and Tell is showing off that style to the world. Your Dress and Tell photo may just end up on our blog, Facebook page, Twitter stream, or even as an alternate product shot. Our customers wear the dresses better than anyone else, and celebrating your beauty, elegance, and style is part of our commitment to providing the best customer service and experience an online boutique can offer.
Thank you, in advance, for participating. We can’t wait to see your photos and reward you for being so fabulous. Best of luck with your entries!

| Jovani Awards Us for Excellence in eCommerce |
|
|

This past week has been full of happy surprises
for us here at New York Dress. It's Homecoming season, and our customers are busy ordering dresses. We're also just beginning to see the upcoming lines for this year's prom 2011season, and we can't wait until these dresses are ready for purchase. Amidst all this hustle and bustle, we had one of the best surprises ever. Jovani, a longtime business partner of ours, awarded us with the "Excellence in eCommerce Award."
Jovani awarded us with this plaque because of our commitment to providing excellent customer service through our online store. We were very happy to receive this award and look forward to continuing the longstanding relationship we've had with Jovani and providing the highest quality service and merchandise to our customers.
We feel very grateful for this kind of recognition like this from a top designer. The manufacturing and sales of faux-designer products is becoming an epidemic in the realm of online retailing, and too many customers are being victimized. New York Dress remains deeply committed to selling only high-quality, original merchandise from each designer that we carry.
Thanks for reading and shopping, and please check out our Jovani dresses, recently updated with the latest designs.
