Bright Times on the NYFW Runways
You’ve come a long way, J. Crew. From prepped out catalog company to modernized tastemakers—your mix and match styling has spawned a new aesthetic. And we are loving it! Who can resist a bit of effortless chic? Clearly not Beyoncé who made a sparkly appearance at the J. Crew S/S ‘12 presentation held at Lincoln Center. While the story of J. Crew clearly stays on trend with bright colors and timeless classics, it’s the combinations that create the must-have looks. Here’s what we’ll be buying next spring. Be warned—it’s looking bright out there!

Though somewhat reminiscent of Prada S/S ‘11 (Hello Hailee Steinfeld at the SAGS), the boldly striped skirt feels remarkably fresh. Perhaps it’s the touch of metallic sheen, or maybe it’s in the pairing with the denim shirt, but J. Crew does here what it does best. They take an unlikely duo, and partner them with success. Whether it’s from the unexpected charm of a neon pop or the perfectly styled untuck of a shirt, J. Crew has mastered a look that’s so easy, so breezy, and so undeniably cool.
And since we’re on the topic of all things cool, we must mention Marc by Marc Jacobs whose show at the New York Armory attracted all the cool girls including Elle and Dakota Fanning and Sophia Coppola. The S/S ‘12 collection was a vibrant burst of color in the form of peplum skirts, short suits and drop-waist dresses. MJ’s girl has gone mod wearing orange, navy and lots of stripes. And how about those shoes! Color blocked platform wedges? Yes please! We’ve never been known to shy away from great accessories, and Marc Jacobs has always delivered in that department. We will gladly tote around the striped bags. He may even get us in the translucent visors (sporty chic anyone?). And for the next trip to St. Barts? We will definitely need the 40’s pin-up style swimsuits. So incredibly hot, yet undeniably cool.
