Calling All Goddesses, We Want Your Dress
Posted on March 24 2011
With spring flowers making their debut, it’s no wonder we’ve got a heart-y case of romance on the brain. And what perfect timing as this spring is all about the love, in a free-flowing girly-kind-of-way. Think Venus and Aphrodite gorgeousness seamlessly wrapped into a dress. Goddess gowns continue to make celestial waves down the runway this season. J. Mendel, Catherine Malandrino and Marchesa are just a few who surrendered to the timeless sophistication of the goddess gown. And who can forget how heavenly Mila Kunis was at the Oscars in that exquisite number by Elie Saab? With its draping flow of modern elegance, the goddess gown brings out the angel in all.

If you’re going to go goddess then it has to look effortless. Our advice, don’t pile on 18lbs of chiffon a la Stevie Nicks. Keep it light and easy with simple draping and intricate embellishments. The cascading fabric speaks volumes on this Morrell Maxie, and the beaded accents on this Alyce dress add just the right glow.
While we can’t resist the purity a white gown offers, we’re in sheer awe when there’s color involved. Selena Gomez went red in a Dolce & Gabbana Grecian-inspired gown at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. And Ms. Kunis was breathtaking in lovely lavender, in the aforementioned dress. Why not take it to the garden this spring, and go green in this floral frock by Basix?
The real beauty of a goddess gown is it flows freely in both day and night. If it’s an afternoon affair, then opt for a shorter version such as this dress by Interlude, and style casually with minimal jewels and flat gladiator sandals. Your feet will be eternally grateful for the reprieve. If it’s evening that makes the call, then sprinkle on the shine with chandelier earrings.
No need for a necklace as goddess gowns often have strong necklines with the asymmetrical silhouette leading the pack. A single bracelet should do the trick. Boost up the glamour in strappy heels, and if you’re feeling extra angelic add a sparkly headband for your crown.
Be careful not to go overboard with accessories. When in doubt leave it out. To complete the look with an ethereal breeze keep your hair styled softly. Braids, loose side buns, and relaxed curls make excellent choices to evoke the goddess within.
