Daywear Gets Heated
Posted on June 10 2011
Never ones to miss an opportunity to break out our finest fare in day time dressing, we are fairly certain that this summer will see us in the stands of a sporting event. Whether it’s the hunky men gallivanting on the field, or the stylish spectators off to the side, we’re in complete fascination with the spectacle—particularly at a Polo Match. With a nod to the prim and proper, the fashion at a Polo Match is classic with a whimsical twist. It pays homage to the long line of English tradition, while having a ton of fun in the process.
The fourth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Governors Island in New York City brought out A-list celebs and fashion mavens. Sundresses, suits and hats galore played alongside the main attraction on the field. With so many variations on spectator fashion we’ve created a cheat sheet to help you get it right. Grab your headpiece—let’s hit the field!
Julia Roberts nailed it in Pretty Woman. With an A-line dot dress, matching hat and white gloves, her look said it all! She had class (sort-of), she had grace (until the game got heated) and she looked gorgeous! Get yourself spotted in this party dress
by Tony Bowls. Horses and hunky men not included.
Totally seasonable and weather appropriate, a floral dress is a sure-fire way to success. Try a romantic version with ruffles, or a body-con silhouette
to flatter your figure. For a truly winning combo, bring in a fabulous hat and grass grazing flats. Score!
It wasn’t a Polo Match—it was the Epsom Derby, but there were still a bevy of horses and fashionable spectators among the festivities including Kate Middleton
who wowed us with her cream dress and coordinating heels and hat. She hit the perfect note of whimsy chic adding another notch on her sartorially savvy belt. Wearing shades of white is refreshingly cool, and feels great in the summer. Choose this dress in cream
, add an on-point fascinator, then off to the races you go!
